About me
You can lay a great foundation for reading before your child is five, Mama! I would love to coach you through the process.
I earned my B (Communication Pathology) cum laude in the previous century. That means I am a qualified, registered speech language pathologist and audiologist from South Africa.
I started working at a rural school while doing my MA (AAC) which I completed cum laude in 2002. When I realised I was teaching English as much as doing therapy (and loving both), I bravely enrolled for PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate of Education). This I completed in 2004, majoring in English and Learner Support (cum laude). I continued teaching mainly English to regular classes until 2016.
At the school I was also responsible for designing and implementing the bridging program to help learners with different home languages, adapt better to having English as their language of learning and teaching.
After leaving the school setting, I worked as a speech language therapist in various settings. As more and more struggling readers walked into my rooms, I realised I needed a better way to help them read better.
Then I found structured literacy (previously called Orton-Gillingham). Structured Literacy is the gold standard approach to teaching any kiddo to read. I eventually did the training offered by the Centre for Effective Reading Instruction (an affiliate of the International Dyslexia Association) and in 2024 became a Certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist.
Now I run my own online practice where I focus on guiding parents to become their children's best language resource, and particularly for reading development. I love including mothers in therapy and I love doing online consultations and training.
I also offer online structured literacy reading and spelling therapy for struggling readers all over the world (USA, UK, Germany, India, Hong Kong, South Africa to name a few). I believe every child can learn to read! It is a tremendous privilege to be part of the solution for so many struggling readers.
I invite you to visit my website and book a 15 minute free consultation with me.
