Who is Letterfly?

“The smartest thing I ever did was join the circus!”

This decision launched a teenager into a turbulent, itinerate career back in 1970. Dave “Letterfly” Knoderer first found expression as a show drummer accenting the efforts of the aerialists, performers and artistes, elevating the experience of the patrons in this fast-paced, uniquely American lifestyle as well as plying skills with a brush to decorate the fleet with his emerging style.

With a penchant for adventure, the young artist soon became involved with training liberty horses, painting theatrical sets, amusement park and fairground décor, performing with classically trained dancing horses, along with creating conventional, hand lettered signage and award-winning storefront décor. But this fast-paced lifestyle was not without temptations, pitfalls and danger. Hitting bottom as an alcoholic brought everything to a screeching halt.

Through the process of recovery from the stronghold on his emotional and mental condition, Dave uncovered the beliefs, mindsets, and attitudes that kept him stuck. Script therapy was part of the healing process started thirty years ago. Writing remains a regular part of every morning resulting in a massive number of musings, articles, speeches and stories, eventually enough for a book, then another, and yet another. Today as a published author Dave remains dedicated to creating inspiration for his readers. Gradually, this new design for living his life surpassed the life he once only dreamt about. Today, this life of service to others is a life he loves.

His first book, a memoire entitled Speedy hurled through havoc was published in 2020. Several more books are in the works now. A desire to develop his story telling ability led to becoming a member of Toastmasters. Filled with a new sense of purpose for his life, Dave enjoys standing up in front of a group and lifting others up into their greatness.

During the summer months “have brush will travel” creates high-quality pinstripe art on motorcycles and other modes of moving fast at customer-oriented Harley-Davidson stores between Philadelphia, Chicago, Galveston and his home near Tampa.

Today, Letterfly is a renowned artist, inspirational speaker and spiritual seeker in the modern world of gigabytes, impulsive distractions and emerging societal insanity.
