Born on April 7, 1974, in Afin Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, he has risen to international prominence as one of the most respected World scientists of his generation, blending deep theoretical insight with practical applications that impact multiple sectors of human endeavor.
Professor Olatunji is currently the Pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Computing at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Nigeria, where he has been instrumental in laying the foundation for cutting-edge research, teaching, and curriculum development in computing disciplines. Prior to this appointment, he served for over a decade as a Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (IAU), Saudi Arabia, where he held several influential positions, including Head of the AI and Data Science Research Group, and Chairman of the Curriculum Unit of the AI Department. He has also lectured and conducted research in prestigious institutions in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria, contributing significantly to funded projects for global industry leaders such as Saudi Aramco. His significant contributions were recognized by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which granted him a Premium Residency, or 'Saudi Green Card', a rare honor bestowed upon only the most exceptional foreign experts.
He obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), where he distinguished himself as the Best Graduating PhD Student in 2012. His academic path also includes an Masters in Information & Computer Science from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Saudi Arabia, earned under a prestigious research assistantship, an Masters in Computer Science from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and a Bachelor (Hons.) in Computer Science from Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti (now Ekiti State University). This strong academic pedigree forms the basis of his multidisciplinary and globally relevant research agenda.
Professor Olatunji’s contributions to scholarship are immense and widely cited. He has authored over 157 peer-reviewed works, including 108 journal articles in top-tier Q1 journals, 45 conference papers, 5 books and book chapters, and 4 theses. His research covers a wide spectrum of applications, including but not limited to:
Healthcare AI: Developing predictive models for early diagnosis of cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and multiple sclerosis.
Oil & Gas: Creating advanced models for reservoir characterization, PVT property prediction, and improved exploration.
Energy Systems & Computational Material Science: Pioneering research into renewable energy modeling, CO₂ adsorption, and the properties of superconductors and nanomaterials.
Environmental Science: Applying hybrid AI systems to pollution analysis, sustainability modeling, and climate-related challenges.
Finance & Business: Predicting bankruptcy risks and stock market fluctuations through advanced computational intelligence techniques.
These interdisciplinary projects highlight his ability to connect AI research with pressing societal, environmental, and industrial challenges.
His excellence has been recognized globally. Professor Olatunji has been listed in the Top 2% of the World’s Most Influential Scientists by Stanford University (2021–2025) for five consecutive years and was named the “No. 1 Artificial Intelligence Researcher in Nigeria” by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2025. Further acknowledging his international impact.
Beyond his research, he is deeply committed to mentorship and knowledge democratization. He has supervised numerous Master’s and PhD theses across three continents and developed curricula for next-generation AI education. In 2020, he launched the free global initiative Machine Learning for All, which offers weekly online training sessions accessible worldwide, making AI education inclusive and barrier-free. Through these initiatives, he has nurtured and inspired a new generation of AI-savvy scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs.
He is also an active member of several professional organizations. His active participation in these bodies reflects his dedication to advancing computing and engineering knowledge globally.
Fluent in English, Yoruba, and Arabic, Professor Olatunji embodies the rare combination of African rootedness and global reach. His career reflects not only academic brilliance but also a deep passion for bridging theory with practice, knowledge with service, and innovation with humanity’s most urgent needs. He continues to serve as a mentor, educator, thought leader, and bridge-builder between continents, leaving an enduring legacy in the ever-evolving world of Artificial Intelligence.
Among his voluntary community services to the People, irrespective of location, is the setting up of a free weekly online training program (since 2020) where AI/Machine Learning and Data Science is being taught and practiced towards making participants become AI-savvy irrespective of their background. The training is code-named “Machine Learning for All”, and there is a YouTube channel dedicated to hosting all recorded sessions and other additional guide’s video, and they can be assessed here:
He also provides free mentorship services and advising for All, irrespective of location, especially the youths, to facilitate better sense of direction and guidance.
