AccountingPy | Python for Accountants
About me
Hello, my name is Jared. I’m an accountant, not necessarily a programmer. However, when I first started doing audits I discovered VBA. To me, it was like finding a secret treasure chest that was going to save me from doing everything manually. So I dabbled for a few years, automated some cool things, and learned what I could. As I began to get heavier into the language, I incorporated Power Pivot, MS Access, API calls, etc.. I stumbled through frustration after frustration before I finally came to the realization that VBA just wasn’t going to cutting it.
So back to square one with a new language. I did bootcamps, tutorials, learned some C#, JavaScript, SQL, etc. but still didn’t find something I thought was good for accounting. What I didn’t realize was I was looking for a language that was easy to learn, familiar if I knew excel, could be automated, was well documented, had a good community, worked with Quickbooks, and worked well with data.
Then I was introduced to Python. I took a couple of courses online and instantly fell in love with the language. It could do it all! Only problem was there wasn’t really any tutorials out there for Accountants. I waded through a bunch of website building and data science tutorials and pieced together little tricks here and there, but it was really slow going. Then I hired a professional developer to tutor me and help me solve a bunch of problems that didn’t have any solutions at the time. The thing was, I didn’t want to build websites or become a data scientist, I wanted to do Accounting. But with a lack material out there for accountants, I had to filter out hundreds of hours of lectures to get the hidden gems. Even after I did that I still had to come up with most things myself. After doing it for a while I realized other accountants were having the same problems I came across.
So here you are. This course is dedicated to teaching you how to leverage the power of Python for your accounting job. As you learn I’m sure you’ll fall in love with the language as I did.
