This course is taught by Dr. Emma L. Briant, the propaganda researcher who played a central role in exposing Cambridge Analytica's wrongdoing in 2018. Dr. Briant was senior researcher for the Oscar-shortlisted Netflix documentary "The Great Hack" and has advised governments, policymakers, and organizations worldwide on disinformation and information warfare. She provides independent consulting, research and training such as courses like this through Maven of Persuasion LLC.

Dr. Emma L. Briant is also Visiting Associate Professor at University of Notre Dame and as a scholar she researches and teaches on contemporary propaganda and information warfare, and its governance in an age of mass-surveillance. Dr. Briant regularly contributes journalism and op-eds to major news outlets and has three books Bad News for Refugees, (Pluto Press, 2013, co-authored with Greg Philo and Pauline Donald), Propaganda and Counter-Terrorism: Strategies for Global Change (Manchester University Press, 2015), and Routledge Handbook on the Influence Industry (Routledge, 2024, with Vian Bakir). She is currently working on her fourth book Propaganda Machine. She has served as advisor for several documentary films including, as Senior Researcher for Oscar-shortlisted Netflix film ‘The Great Hack’.
