Dr. Deon van Wyk lectured at two of the foremost universities in South Africa up to 1990 as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Psychology. He was a Member of the Executive Committee of the Institute for Counselling Psychologists in South Africa, Member of the Educational Committee of the Career Board for Psychology, Member of the Executive Committee of the SA Institute of Child and Adult Guidance Clinics in South Africa, Member of the National Research Council of the Human Sciences and Research Council of South Africa, and received the Merit Award for contributions to Psychology in South Africa.

In 1991 he migrated to the private sector holding positions as Founding Member and Executive Chairman of the Open Learning Group, Founding member and Executive Director of eDegree, Academic Head of the Independent Institute of Education, Founding Member of TalenTech (an IT Company) and Executive Director of StudySmart.
