All right. And this one we're going to see how to navigate around our 3D viewport or our scene. Now for blender I recommend having a three button mouse. So if you have a laptop like I'm on right now, I recommend having a three button mouse connected to it because it will make it much easier. If you try to use the mouse pad on a laptop. It just makes things really complicated. Now I will show you how to do it if you don't have a three button mouse, but I recommend getting one, you could go to Amazon.com and buy a three button mouse. It will make things much easier. So how do we navigate around our 3D viewport or our scene? Well, the first thing is tumbling or rotating around which to do that you can use the middle mouse button. Once again, I'll show you how to do it if you don't have a three button mouse. So middle mouse button will allow for you to tumble around. Now remember when I first tried doing this in blender? I didn't know how to tumble around. It was a little bit complicated, and I just felt like I was in a freaking washing machine and trying to orient myself. But don't worry, once you mess around with it a little bit, you'll get the hang of it. So again, middle mouse button to tumble. Then the next thing is to pan or move left and right and up and down. And if you hit shift middle mouse button and move the mouse, you could pan or move left and right and up and down. So again middle mouse button to tumble shift middle mouse button to pan. And then lastly to zoom in and out. You could scroll your mouse wheel up and down which will zoom in and out. So again middle mouse button to tumble shift middle mouse button to pan and mouse scroll to zoom in and out. Very cool. Now once again, if you do not have a three button mouse, we could go to Edit Preferences and under input we could select emulate three button mouse right here. So if we enable that now if we alt left click this will allow for you to tumble. So alt left click. If we alt shift left click. This allows for us to pan and alt control. Left click allows for us to zoom in and out. Now, I don't recommend this because enabling three button mouse will basically remove some of the other hotkeys that you have when you have a three button mouse. So this could cause some complications as far as hotkeys down the road, because now these hotkeys are configured for a non three button mouse workflow. So some of the other hotkeys that we might use may not work with the same hotkeys if you have this enabled. But for now, if you don't have it, if you don't have a three button mouse, you could enable that. Another way. Let me disable this. So emulate three button mouse. Let me disable it. Another way you could navigate is over here you can see that we have these widgets. If I left click and drag in this sphere or in the circle, you could see I could tumble around. And then right here with the magnifying glass. If I left click and drag this, I could zoom in and out. And if I left click and drag the hand, I could pan or move around like so. As you can see right there. So you could use these I honestly never use these. And I just use a three button mouse. Makes it much easier. All right. Let's take a look at how to move to a certain view. So let's say you want to move to front view right here. But trying to navigate and position this exactly like that in front view is quite annoying and tedious. So what you want to do? Again, I recommend having a numpad. So if your keyboard doesn't have a numpad, you could get an external keyboard which will have a numpad. It will make it much easier. But if you don't have a numpad, I will show you how to emulate a numpad, just like we did for the three button mouse. So on the numpad, if you hit one on your numpad, it will go to front view. As you can see right here. Front orthographic. And I'll show you what orthographic is in a second. If we hit three on the numpad, it will go to the right view or the side view, as you can see right here. And if we hit seven on the numpad, it will go to the top view or top orthographic. So again one for front, three for the right side and seven for the top view. Now, let's say you want to go to the back side and the left side and bottom view. Well you could just hold down control and hit one and you will go to the back control three. You will go to the left side and control seven. You will go to the bottom. Pretty cool. Now once again, if you do not have a numpad. If we go to Edit Preferences, we can select Emulate Numpad right here. Now, once again, I don't necessarily recommend this because these hotkeys I'm going to show you are going to be used for other functions. But now if you hit one on your normal keyboard, so not on the numpad, but on the keys that are above the Q, W, E, and R, you can see that here. If I hit one, I go to front view, three, I go to side view, and seven I go to top. And if I hold down control I will go to the opposite of those. Now once again I don't recommend this because these keys are used for other functions. So right here I'm going to disable emulate numpad. Another way you could do it is once again with this widget over here you can see that here we have an x, y and z axis. Now again, the y axis right here is the green one. The red one is the x axis. And if I hit one on the numpad to go into front view, you can see that the blue is the z axis. So right here, if I click on one of these, for example, if I click negative y right here, I will go to the front view. If I click on the positive x right here I will go to the right view. If I click on the positive x I will go to the left view. So again you could click on these to go to a particular view. As you could see right there. Once again I never use this. I just use the numpad one, three and seven just makes it much easier. All right. Very cool. Now we could also move in increments. So if I hit one on the numpad to go into front view, you can use four, six, eight and two to move in increments to the left, right, up and down if you want. Now, one thing is that you can see here, if I hit one to go into front view, you could see it goes to orthographic view automatically. But then as soon as I rotate around it goes to perspective. So when you hit any of these to go to a particular view, it will go to orthographic. Orthographic view basically means that there is no perspective so there is no depth to the scene. So right here you could see that when we automatically go to front view, side view or top view it goes to orthographic. And as I rotate around it goes to perspective. With perspective you have perspective in your scene and things have depth or look three dimensional. Now we could toggle in and out of perspective and orthographic view by hitting five on the numpad. So you can see here I'm in perspective. This cube has depth and looks three dimensional. But if I hit five on the numpad and go to orthographic you, you could see that it looks flattened and there is no perspective. So if I hit one to go into front view, it's an orthographic. I could hit five on the numpad and it will change it to perspective front view. We could also change it from orthographic or perspective by clicking this right here, as you can see. This will change it in and out of orthographic and perspective. All right. And then the lastly, if I hit zero on the numpad it will go into the camera view. So you can see we are now viewing this from the camera. We could do the same thing by clicking this little camera icon, which will allow for us to go in and out of camera view. Lastly, if you hit the tilde key, you're like, what the heck is a tilde key? The tilde key is the little key that's below the escape key on the top left of your keyboard. If I hit the tilde key, you can see I get this kind of wheel function to select if I want to go to front view, if I want to go to the back view, if I want to go to the camera view, if I want to go to the bottom view, etc.. So you could also use the tilde key if you don't have a numpad, which is much more practical than this right here. So again tilde key brings up this pop up wheel menu where you could change the views. So there we go once again. Middle mouse click to tumble shift middle mouse, click to pan. Mouse wheel up and down to zoom in and out. And then one, three and seven on the numpad to go to the different views. If you hold down control and do those, it will go to the opposite. Five on the numpad is to go in and out of orthographic view, and zero on the numpad is to go into camera view, and once again you can hit the tilde key and select any of those.
