Imposter Syndrome is described by Wikipedia as follows: Impostor syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon or fraud syndrome) is a concept describing high-achieving individuals who are marked by an inability to internalize their accomplishments and a persistent fear of being exposed as a "fraud". The term was coined in 1978 by clinical psychologists Pauline R. Clance and Suzanne A. Imes.
As soon as I started my online business in March of 2016, I started feeling the persistent digs of Imposter Syndrome. I felt unable to proceed according to plan because I was paralyzed by fear. I was afraid I had no idea what I was doing, and I was afraid everyone would find out, and laugh and point at me. Imposter Syndrome was so debilitating in my case, that I postponed creating video course, and other such important deeds, for far too many months.
In fact, I wanted to become an entrepreneur in 2007, but I kept on postponing for ten whole years, because I was bowled over by Imposter Syndrome. It completely deterred me from doing anything creative, or courageous for years.
I knew there and then, that once I had defeated it, I would create a course on Imposter Syndrome and try to get the message out to as many people as possible. Imposter Syndrome is something that sticks with us no matter how successful we become. In fact, it sticks even closer the more successful we are, because we can't believe we would get to this pinnacle of success. I want to share the techniques I use on a daily basis in beating Imposter Syndrome, and to get my work done.
We all want to live self-actualized lives. That is the ultimate goal, isn't it? We do not want to hang around in mediocrity, and let the law of averages rule our lives. We do not want to suffocate in our comfort zones. We want to do more, and be more, and have more than ever before. That is why we are doing all of this.
But if we aren't careful and present, we could get hit by a case of Imposter Syndrome and that could take us down completely. I don't want this to happen to you, so I created this course, to help you beat Imposter Syndrome dead in its tracks.
That is the goal here.
Even though you are going to never eliminate it completely, you can rise above it, and keep on going on your path. That is what I am going to teach you.
Everyone on this planet feels the wrath of Imposter Syndrome. No one is immune from it, and that should be a consolation to all of us. We are not alone, and we can find others who will support us in this journey.
Let's work on it together, my friends!
In this lecture, I'll speak to you about the basics. What is Imposter Syndrome? What will it feel like? How I experienced it in my own life? I hope sharing my story with you will show you that everyone on this planet goes through this syndrome and you are not alone. You can get through this. All you need to have is faith and belief in your path, and the realization that everyone is feeling the way you are.
Imposter Syndrome looks different in different situations, and it hits different people differently. In this lecture, we will speak about the different ways in which it manifests in us.
Imposter Syndrome affects everyone who is trying to level up. So it is quite similar to the idea of Resistance from Steven Pressfield's book, 'The War Of Art.' I highly recommend the book if you haven't already read it.
Imposter Syndrome hits us the hardest when we are going to start something new that is a level up for us. Remember, your levelling up will not be the same as someone else levelling up. Do not compare your Imposter Syndrome to someone else's. We are all at different parts of the curve, or on different curves altogether.
We all feel we are the only ones dealing with Imposter Syndrome. It's not true!! Find a community of people who are going through the same situation as you and you will realize everyone is in the same boat. Everyone is feeling the pangs of Imposter Syndrome closing down upon on them. It is that powerful.
I think perfectionism, or the need to be perfect in any new endeavour is what kills most new endeavours in their tracks before we have even started. It is absolutely debilitating. We do not even get started, because we are so afraid of being perfect. This is reality - we are not perfect, and nothing we do is going to be perfect. So just get it done, and get it out there! Do the work you were sent on this planet to do.
If I didn't have my support group of people to talk to every single time I felt the pangs of Imposter Syndrome, I wouldn't have done so many of the things that I have done. I go back to them every single time I feel off about my path or I feel doubt in any shape. I am so glad to have them, and I want you to have that support group as well.
In my brilliant journey, I have had the privilege of speaking to so many amazing, successful and intelligent people. I have realized from these conversations that there is not even a single person on this planet who doesn't suffer from Imposter Syndrome. Everyone is going through the same journey and we need to get over thinking that we are the only ones. We are not the only ones. Go out and talk to successful people who are in the same boat as you and you will realize this is true.
This technique is all about ignoring as much as possible Imposter Syndrome and all of the horrible things it is going to say to you. It is a horrible monster that can eat away at our efforts, and brains, if we let it. We need to ignore it, and keep on doing the work that we are here on this planet to do. We can't let it hold us back. That would defeat the purpose of being human and hopeful.
So many of us are trudging through life in a mindless fashion. Imposter Syndrome banks on us being mindless while it tells us all of the nonsensical stories that are absolutely false and not based in any reality. I want us to be mindful and present through the process, so we can realize that the stories are false, and retaliate back by keeping on with our path. Keep on keeping on.
There is a reason you are on the path you are on. You chose it for a reason. Believe in that reason, and don't let all of the forces out there hold you back and down. Don't let them make you believe that you are wrong in choosing this path. Keep on believing in your path and keep on at it.
We can look at Imposter Syndrome as a bad thing and avoid it, or despise it. Or we can look at it as a great sign-post, and use it to realize it that we are one of the few people on this planet who are actually living their lives in an self-actualized manner. Which side do you want to play on?
This is the final lecture, and I want to thank you again for trusting me and letting me guide you through the process of beating and rising above the demons of Imposter Syndrome. Let's keep on keeping on, and keep on living our path. We are all on a journey here, and we can do it. If you ever want to contact me, you can do so at boomshikha at themillionairehippie dot com. Or message me on Udemy. I look forward to any feedback or comments from you and please stay in touch.
In this lecture, I will speak about two techniques, I use to beat Imposter Syndrome by strengthening my mind and rewiring my brain. Check it!
This is a general quiz about Imposter Syndrome based on my learning and interpretation of it. The main learning here is that Imposter Syndrome looks different to different people. But you are the one who has to decide this is just Imposter Syndrome, and I can get over it.
Boom Shikha is a serial entrepreneur, wanderluster, online-business owner, yogi, author, and avid meditator.
She is the owner of the epic brand 'The Millionaire Hippie' and she runs a podcast with the same name.
She has an MBA and a B.Sc. in Kinesiology. She has read hundreds of books and is a self-taught teacher. She wants to share all of the knowledge that she has gained in her decades of learning and growing, and that's why she creates these Udemy courses, to spread the joy of learning.
A lot of her topics are obscure and are topics that she has spent time thinking and researching on. She loves learning more about how the human mind works, specifically her own. Why do I do things the way I do them? Why do I end up liking things the way I do? Why am I creative in some moments and not in others? Why does it sometimes take me forever to start my creative projects?
There are so many questions that she had that she answered by learning more about her own psychology.
Meditation, and Journaling are two techniques she uses on a daily basis in order to grow her mind and get to her optimal self.
She is also a published author, with 5 books and counting published on Amazon. Links are all available on her website.
