Explore zen doodle composition by combining elements like a flower inside a squirrel inside a circle, transitioning through linear, segmented, and diagonal zigzag patterns with borders and swirls.
Explore patterns that blend shading and line work to create optical illusions of depth. Learn Celtic knots, lattice, and other Zen tangle patterns, with flexible options and a guiding dictionary.
Flukes is a type of pattern from Zentangle, it involves a grid and outlines to create depth and overlapping.
Plan and lay out a Zentangle scene with light pencil, outline in pen, grease the pencil, then add details with pen and colored pencils like moon, lighthouse, and ocean line.
Begin by establishing a small, even square and branching into freeform shapes. Build neuron-inspired motifs and filled paddlings to explore creative pen stenciling in zen doodle.
Explore pattern building basics by layering circle-based motifs, adding movement with spirals, and creating variations like mountain terrain. Experiment with colors, contrasts, and quick versions.
Explore how the grid underpins spirals, patterns, tangles, and 3D to 2D optical illusions in Zen doodle, making it the primary tool and secret sauce for experts.

Intro to the course:
I'm Joe, and I am teaching my favorite subject, drawing. I've been drawing for 12 years but just this year, I was introduced to Zen Doodling, and can't stop. Zen Doodling is mindful drawing without the fancy techniques. So I created a simple 3 part course to build upon patterns and colors to create a collage of intricate and flowing Zentopia with the pen.
Why you should enroll in this course (even if you have never drawn before!):
You know what they say, practice makes perfect. Practicing is picking up the pencil before you draw, and many fail to get started for reasons such as: "I don't know what to draw", "I'm not creative", "It's not worth drawing if its not a museum masterpiece", "I won't go viral", etc. The truth is building a sketchbook is one of the most important things you can do as an artist for two clear reasons. 1. You can get to the core of an idea, but drawing it multiple times. 2. Having a safe place where you can look at work judgement free and practice being creative daily. With Zen Doodling it allows you to take the idea of doodling literal scribbles into a design that stands out as being symmetric, authentic and concise enough to give you expression to doodling. As I mentioned, picking up the pencil and drawing the scribbles that will turn into patterns and eventually could be something more or way to let your drawing get wings.
