Stress has reached epidemic proportions in our current society and is causing us to be sick and unhappy. Yoga and meditation help ground us in the present moment, heightening our awareness of physical sensations, emotions, and thoughts. Current neuroscience research shows that practicing meditation and yoga helps improve anxiety, depression, brain health and longevity, the immune system, physical performance, sleep and even sex. Becoming more conscious and mindful in the now enables us to let go of past stories and future events that cause anxiety. Regular practice of yoga and meditation will reduce your stress levels, so let's get started!
Though we may not always understand the mysterious ways in which life unfolds, we practice acceptance for the things that we cannot control, for life as it is right in this moment. Accepting that everything will be revealed at just the right time enables us to let go of stress about the past or future, and to live more fully right in the moment.
Look at yourself and the junk you hold onto in life, the emotional baggage that won't let you be free. In this class we surrender that baggage. Let go of control, ego, anger, resistance. We realign our views of reality by breathing ourselves open and releasing what was never ours to carry. Surrender to impermanence, to something bigger than ourselves and allow the heart to burst open.
Stress causes our bodies and our lives to become constricted. Once we surrender and release, we begin to create space in our lives to become unstuck and emerge into something greater. Use this practice to grow the life that you want to live, the joyous life that you choose.
We all go through challenges in life, times when we feel blue or stressed or just unsettled. Making a conscious effort to feel gratitude grounds us in the present moment and instantly brings joy into the heart. But it takes practice because our brain is conditioned to take more notice of the things that aren't going so well in our lives. So today, focus on your abundant blessings, on how good things really are in your life and notice the shift that happens in your body, mind, and heart.
This course is designed to help you regain control over the direction of your life, to make the shift from busy and stressed to joyous and peaceful. The course is comprised of four 45 minute lessons following the topics: Acceptance, Surrender, Emergence, and Gratitude. Each class begins with a breathing exercise (pranayama) and then moves through sequences of postures, ending with a supine meditation in Savasana.
Please note: If you are not able to do all the postures offered, just modify where necessary without any self-judgement. Listen to your body and observe how you react when challenged. The purpose of yoga is not to become better at yoga, but to become better at life. Yoga simply helps increase our awareness of the present moment so we become grounded and less reactive. And in time, our bodies do become more supple and flexible. Do what you can and leave the rest alone.
Bonus Meditation. This is a 5 minute guided meditation to give you inner strength. Use it as a stand-alone meditation or at the end of your yoga practice.
Bonus Yoga Nidra. This is a 5 minute body scan mediation, generally practiced lying down. Use it as a stand-alone meditation or at the end of your yoga practice.
