Welcome to the course! You want to turn your photos and videos into an easy-to-share and eye-catching video that all your friends and family will love.
I've made over 200 videos using my phone and over 150 of those have been with CyberLink PowerDirector and I will teach you so that you too can make memorable videos. I started with Samsung Galaxy S7 and now I use a Huawei Mate 20X for the larger screen.
I used the auto-video apps but they always left out key points or didn't emphasize what I wanted. So I wanted a bit more control but I didn't know how to use Final Cut or Adobe After effects, or other pro level software to make videos. Plus, as mobile photography improved, I began shooting all my photos and videos on my phone. I tried several other software including: iMovie, Kinemaster, Samsung editor, and Filmora Go, but the best price/value/utility has come from PowerDirector.
Power director lets you:
-multi-track editing
-cut and edit video
-stabilize video
-crop video to zoom in on the action
-add filters
-add text with cool animations
-add transitions
-add stickers
-add video and photo overlay, up to 9 tracks, including PiP and chroma key (green screen)
-speed up and slow down video
-reverse video
-pan and zoom photos
-create cool slideshows
-edit audio tracks, including music and voice overs
-export in multiple formats, including 4k
-export and share directly to social media
***some features only available in paid version
I will show you how to take those amazing snapshots and the special videos you captured and turn them into an easy to share video that everyone will love.
We will cover all the basics needed to edit properly and go over some advanced editing techniques that will take your videos to the next level. You are really only limited by your creativity. And as your skill increases, you'll want to do more, so I will also briefly cover a few other apps I use to compliment power director. You can use this course and learn what you need to, and then as your editing needs grows and evolve, you can return to the course and check out the advanced techniques and tips.
I've also included a handy quick reference manual that outlines the all the features and where to find them. But many of the skills you'll learn in this course apply to most linear/timeline video editors. So these skills are transferable if you one day want to work with professional video editing like Final Cut or Avid
The first video you create might take awhile, but once you finish and start getting compliments and people asking for more videos, you'll want to make more videos. And, the more videos you make, the better you'll get at it and the faster you'll be able to make them. So, let's get started!
Here's what you need for this course:
-Cyberlink PowerDirector
If you want to add additional awesomeness to your videos, check out these apps too (I will briefly discuss how to use them in this video):
-Google Snapseed
-Background Eraser
*This video is recorded in the 9:16 format and is best viewed in vertical orientation on a mobile phone/device*

Don't have time to watch a long video, or maybe you have some experience with video editors already? Either way, here is a quick, one-minute overview of what this program can do.
Download the Quick Reference Guide in the resources section.
Now you've downloaded the app, let's open it up and get familiar with the menus and available options. This is a medium-depth overview of almost everything possible in the program, where to find menu buttons, and information on how the software reacts when used.
Below is the same Quick Reference pdf from the One Minute Overview.
As CyberLink continues to develop and improve their software, they've listened to its users and have released some major updates in the last few months that have really improved the user experience. Thanks CyberLink!
Let's get the videos, photos, and audio you want, ready to be edited.
So, we know how to manage our media, let's start enhancing it with simple edits like:
-Scrubbing and Moving
-Cutting and Clipping
Scrubbing - Manually moving the cursor through a video
Clipping - Dragging the beginning/end of a clip to shorten it
Cutting - Separating a clip into two clips (also called "splicing")
Now it's time to add:
-Video effects
-Cropping
-Pan & zoom
-Adjusting audio on videos
Next we will practice:
-Transitions
-Overlay text
Let's finish with:
-Adding overlay stickers
-Adding audio / sound effects
-Recording voiceovers
Although we already have a pretty cool video, let's look at how to spice it up even more. We will learn:
-Rotating videos
-Changing the speed of videos
-Reversing videos
Next thing is to look at:
-Adding overlays (picture-in-picture) with photos and videos
-Adjusting sound tracks
Now we'll learn how to do:
-Screenshots
-Duplicate projects
All about how to use chroma key.
We are going to dive into:
-Using audio only from video
-Audio splicing to extend songs
-Editing Photos
There are limitations of the software and sometimes we get stuck. Here's how to avoid, get around, and overcome some common problems with PowerDirector. Here are some tips, tricks, reminders, and ways to troubleshoot issues.
0:18 Sort through videos/photos before you open CyberLink

All the editing is done! Now, how do we make sure our video is awesome and, more importantly, how do we share it?
Thank you for choosing this course. If you have questions, comments, or suggestions, please feel free to let me know. Happy editing!

A behind the scenes look into how I edit my vlog-style post (where I sit in front of the camera and talk). These videos often require a lot of cutting, splicing, and lining up audio. There is little overlay, aside from text and maybe a few stickers here and there. If you are interested in vlogging, this video is perfect for you.
I've used the intro video to this course (shot in a vlogger style) as the material for this video. This is the actual editing process I took for the very video you see at the beginning of this course.
So you recorded yourself playing basketball in the driveway with friends, or maybe you recorded your child's first teeball game or swim meet from the stands. Or, maybe your brother and his band performed as an opening act in a local club. No matter what, you probably recorded the whole thing and there's no way you want to share the entire video (nor will people want to watch), so let's make a highlight tape and show only the best parts!
So, you went on vacation and took an hour worth of video, and 100 photos. Yeah, me too. Let's get that down to a respectable length of time to share with friends and family.
They say the best camera is the one you have with you. We record so many videos and take so many photos, but when we want to share them with others, it can be boring and time consuming trying to scroll through and share each one individually. I'll show you how to make one cool video that summarizes that awesome vacation or highlights the best parts of your performance.
Sure, there are apps that do all the editing for you, but those apps don't know how to judge which video or photo is the most important to us. I will show you how to take more control over your edited videos and make visually impressive videos that all your friends will be talking about. Who knows, you might make the next viral video.
This course WILL show you:
How to take the cool videos and photos you've taken and turn them into an eye-catching montage.
Simple tricks to correct audio and video problems in post-production.
Spice up your photos and videos so that they are even more visually pleasing.
This course WON'T show you how to record video or take photos. It is focused solely on video editing.
