After releasing their new research report on investment in Educational Technologies focused on existing platforms and their implementation in the Jewish educational landscape, Jim Joseph & William Davidson Foundations decided to publish the report as a resource for us all.

The research conducted by Lewis J. Bernstein and Associates is one of the most thorough and on point research in this field. (short bios of researchers is provided in the beginning of the paper)

Since first landing in my email box I have been referring to it as the new "Luchot Habrit" (The tablets of stone) especially as my role demands me to make choices on these issues and the feeling this is a very important a larger discussion. As someone who believes in User Experience and Human centered design I find this paper of highest value.

This attempt at making it easier to digest and understand is my way of contributing to the discussion initiated by the foundations and researchers and a way to get my peers on the same page realizing that as valuable as it is, it is not an easy realm for newcomers to the field of EdTech and BuzzWords dominated spaces.

I am a great believer in User experience design and my attempt through this Udemy course creation is to offer another way of digesting the important content provided in this paper by the researchers and the commissioning foundations.

More importantly this is my attempt at providing my approch to User Experience and the understanding that good depends on what my preferences are. The 1st rule of User Experience designers is "You are NOT the user".

I hope this short, test yourself oriented agency #HandsOn, interactive and immediate attempt of mine makes this a more digestible resource for the EdTech Jewish and Non-Jewish community.

    * Personal disclaimer -

I tend to write in conversational/I form as this is my experience which I share.
The dialogue between text, context and thought is what I do that shapes my identity.
I feel that whenever a reader is challenged by this they should either go to the original text or to themselves and to how they are experiencing this as a way of asking a self question.

This dialogue allows a better understanding of what I mean by User Experience.

Requirements

  • Dedicate at least two hours to finish the course
  • Download the smart money report - found under resources tab
  • Have a Learn - Unlearn - Relearn approach
  • Each one will have to test apps from the report lists and give feedback in video and/or written form

Description

An entry level course to get you in to the EdTech world.

I thank the Jim Joseph Foundation, William Davidson Foundation and Lewis J. Bernstein for this compiling resource and hope that my work helps others in getting there in an out to this world.

This course allows an overview of the recommendations chapter and aspires to provide some guidance and make the field research more digestible and interactive. I hope that a practice community will grow through this ecourse attempt and by that apply practices the report suggests as valid and worthy to get more people involved.

The field of Technology is one where experience counts more than knowledge so I've built this course in a way where our shared experiences create the value, that is why instead of reviewing apps myself I decided that we all will test and review in a way that we can than share the outcomes and learn from each other.

This is a participatory course and I hope this proves as a valid try and success.

Who this course is for:

  • Educators - Jewish and Non-Jewish
  • Program facilitators
  • Students
  • Techies
  • Anyone who wishes to learn about this field and participate in this community of practice
