Take a look at how I have set up the course.
Download Blender. You will obviously need this if you don't have it already.
If you don't know what a ZIP file is, and you have no way of opening a zip file, this video will solve that problem for you.
Features Introduction
A run-through of the defualt settings in Blender
A quick guide on how to navigate around in Blender.
A quick tour around the viewport in Blender.
An overview of Vertices, Edges and Polygons.
Understand the difference between 'Object' and 'Edit' mode.
Here I explain how you can modify the intial values of newly created primitives.
In this video, we get to grips with transforms.
In this video, I explain what actual normals are.
New to Blender 4.4 - A change in the way they show face orientation
A usefull tool for displaying the normals of your model.
Here we smooth the normals.
A neat trick that allows us to keep our normal groups organised.
Snapping is a great tool for when moving elements withing Blender and maintaining accuracy.
The 3D cursor is essentially a position in 3D space where elements are spawned when created, and can be manipulated for greater use.
Here we take a look at extruding faces.
How to Insert edge loops into your geometry.
How to inset a polygon into your geometry.
Bevelling is fundamental for those sloped or curved edges.
This is one of my favourite tools. The knife tool will allow you to slice through your geometry like butter.
Another amazing tool allowing you to accuratly carve up your geometry.
How you install the carver tool (and possibly other add-ons) has changed. This video explains that change.
Learn bezier curves to enrich your tool set and create curvey objects.
Add 3D text to your scene.
Here we're going to look at how to bridge gaps in polygon loops.
If you need more accuracy or a gradual influence when perfoming a task, proportional editing will give you this.
This is one of many modifiers that will solidify your objects.
If you've always wanted to make notes while you work, directly in your 3D scene, Annotate will allow you to do this.
Get your objects organised using collections.
Create automatic backups just by saving incrementally.
Using the Boolean modifier.
How to use the modifier shrinkwrap tool.
Your first challenge building an object from what you've learnt.
Your second challenge.
Your second challenge continued.
Modelling Techniques Introduction
How to cap a cylinder with quads.
How to create an arch using the mirrow modifier.
Setting up the scene introduction.
Concept reference is important as an artist when creating a scene.
Get the scale of all objects correct from the start.
Download the human model attached to this lecture for size reference.
Setting up the cabin floor space to mark the position and size of our cabin.
Creating modular pieces introduction.
We make a few logs that will allow us build many modular walls!
Create a frame for our door to sit in.
Build windows for our hut.
Lets create a temporary structure to establish our cabin size.
Building the structure to hold up the roof.
Making tiles to cover the roof.
Building the main structure for our cabin.
Setting up UVs Intro.
Here we understand how images are assigned to polygons.
Now we're going to learn how Blender assigns UVs to geometry.
Applying a grided image to our geometry so we can see our UVs.
Here we learn how to retain our UVs when editing geometry.
If we want to repeat our map across the geometry surface, we will need to tile the UVs.
Combing UV space to multiple objects that already have UVs.
Applying UVs to the windows and doors.
Applying them again to roof tiles.
Your next challenge to create UVs for the A-frame of the hut.
Build using modular pieces introduction.
Here we use the logs we made to build the walls of the cabin.
Using the 'carver' tool to cut the windows out of the walls.
Using an Array modifier to place the roof planks.
Sculpting in Blender introduction.
In this lecture we take a look at the sculpting tool and create some terrain for our hut to sit on.
The sculpting tools changed in 4.3... here I show you how.
Render the ground with several layers of textures and create a more realistic ground.
Setting up a material for our logs.
A quick technique to apply materials to instances of your objects.
Create and assign materials for the wall and floor planks.
Create and assign a material for the doorframe and window.
Props and set dressing introduction.
Create a chimney that extends inside and out.
He we start building more props.
Cabin door and doorframe going into the cabin.
Building wooden steps leading up to the first floor.
Add detail to the interior of your hut!
BLENDER 5.0 is out.
This course has been tested up to Blender 5.0 and we’ll continue to keep it updated as and when new versions of Blender are released. Learn from the ground up, how to create AAA assets using Blender, a free to use 3D modelling program. You'll learn it's feature set, and then build a simple scene applying the knowledge you have learned. Build a structure using modular pieces, create props, add lighting, sculpt a small piece of landscape and add a camera. Then render your work to a final image that you can add to your portfolio.
Whether you are a budding game artist, a FX artist, a texture artist, or you simply want to print your own models using a 3D printer, Blender can do that for you.
Whatever your goals are…
Build and create models, and texture assets for video games.
Level Designer creating grey box levels
Create 3D prints for yourself or as a gift.
Design your dream garden, extension, or kitchen for your house.
Maybe you’re a traditional artist wondering what all this 3D noise is all about and how it can help you (it really can).
Or maybe you simply want to experiment with 3D art for pleasure.
The course follows a flow that will teach you the core feature set in Blender, and then use those tools in a project that can be shared with renders at the end. Assets will be supplied where required, and I show you where you can obtain free assets to help you with your scene building. I do expect you to put the work in, it's the best way to learn, so I don't give you all the assets, you actually have to make them using what you learn.
With a total enrolment of over 18,000 (at the time of writing) across all of my courses, you can be sure that you are in good hands with The ART of Blender. I have over 30 years of experience working in the games industry, and continue to do so, so I have a fountain of knowledge to share with you. If it isn’t in this course, simply ask and I will endeavour to create it and add lectures as and when required.
