  • Introduction, Understanding the Parts of a Stroke to a Survivor4:26

Dana Rivera breaks down the four parts of a stroke: The physical, emotional, and social sides and the bigger picture.

Understanding all four parts help you build awareness and grit along your recovery journey. It's the foundation a survivor needs to stand on. Stroke recovery is not a straight line, it is a whole life process that touches every part of who you are. Learning and internalizing what has happened, helps you navigate your recovery and lay the framework for your future.

  • Lesson 1.1: Parts of a Stroke4:26

Stop relying on the myth that stroke recovery is a straight line of doctor's visits and physical therapy. In this crucial lecture, Dana Rivera cuts through the noise with the hard truth: recovery is a whole-life process touching your physical body, emotional wellness, relationships, and long-term future. Through direct, no-sugar-coating instruction, you'll learn the four essential components of healing, including the importance of consistency in physical progress, tools for managing grief and anxiety, and the survival skill of building a robust support network. This session provides the realistic expectations and actionable strategies you need to face recovery with strength, clarity, and hope—you will be given the tools and strategies to understand what genuine stroke recovery looks like, enabling you to create a life that works for you now.

  • Exercise 1: Self Portrait2:25

It can be so hard to see your progress when you're living inside your recovery every day. In this lecture, I’ll show you why making invisible progress visible is a game changer for motivation and confidence. You'll be engaging directly with this powerful concept through my direct, motivational instruction. Your required activity is the "Self Portrait" exercise: using a pen and paper—no artistic skill needed—you will draw an honest snapshot of yourself, physically and emotionally, at the very beginning of this journey. This initial drawing will serve as the unshakeable evidence you need at the end of the course to see how far you’ve truly come.
