Welcome video from Dr. Anthony Dallmann-Jones, author of LIVING A STRESS FREE LIFE and "Dr. Sress" on K107.1 call in radio.
This is both the Table of Contents and a list of what you will be able to do after taking this course.
Dr. Dallmann-Jones explains why the course is titled Statistics & Zen.
This emphasizes the importance of relaxing while learning. Fear and life-enhancing learning contradict one another.
Careful instruction AND practice in doing Conscious Connected Breathing - an empowering and rapid system for aiding in remembering what you have learned.
NOTE: There is a lot more information on this...if you are interested...at the end of the course.
You will learn, in general, what statistics is all about. Statistics is focused on either populations or samples. There are different symbols AND functions for each.
The first terms about Populations and Samples are parameters and statistic. [Not statisticS...statistic. Learn the difference.]
Short quiz on Population vs. Sample
You will learn about the use of capital letters and lower case letters to represent, respectively, Populations and Samples.
Both a break from learning but also practicing CCB at the same time. It is VERY important to do CCB until you remember to use it when it will help you.
Here you will learn about the use of Greek symbols, how to recognize them, and do your first mathematical function: Figuring the average while learning the formula lingo.
This is a LONG lesson, so pause it as you need to - just pause the lesson and relax AND breathe (CCB, of course!) - then, when ready, start the lesson again. There is no need to hurry!
Now YOU will do your own Sum of Squares formulations
Essential to doing anything significant as well as meaningful with scores you must know how to Sum the Squares.
Doing Sum of Squares in Samples is Different - You must comprehend Degrees of Freedom.
The core concept of Statistics is the 'Average'.
Central Tendencies is, once again, looking at the middle/average scores and learning how to do them.
Using Mrs. Samir's Class to Illustrate Mean, Median & Mode
What IS the "Bell Curve"?
Building a Frequency Distribution Table
Learning How to Derive Cumulative Frequency (cf) and Percentiles (c%)
Using a Frequency of Distribution Table to Figure Percentiles
Learn to Utilize CCB to Combat Math Phobias
Understanding the Order of Math Operations
Using Actual Formulas
Doing a Problem to Learn Your Operations and Symbols
Solving a Problem Using Everything You Have Learned!
What kind of instructor would I be if I did not say Farewell AND ask you to encourage others to take this course.
STATISTICS CRIB SHEETS available in .doc or .pdf
located below!
You can download and fill in the Certificate of Completion
A 3 page document that encapsulates all the basic elementary statistics notations, operations, symbols, and functions.
This is a little fun extra added attraction...your instructor fumbling it up pretty badly. It is R rated!
STATISTICS & ZEN is a "pre-statistics" course. This is a brief, clear and succinct course for four possible audiences. NOTE: This is a unique course in that it has built in techniques to reduce anxiety and to enable exponential retention of what is learned. If you are willing to learn statistics in a new way - using breathing, focusing and relaxation exercises - this course is for you.
1) Preparation for anyone getting ready to take their first statistics course;
2) Those anxious - from nervous to downright terrified - about taking statistics course;
3) A refresher course for those who have been away from statistics a long time; and,
4) The novice in statistics going into a business (or a business meeting) where "stat speak" is going to happen and you don't want to look like an idiot.
The course is taught with videos, Powerpoint slides with narrations, and audio files, but more importantly, breathing and relaxing techniques are included to lower fear and confusion and to speed up retention of the material.
