This Course Offers the following skills
Fundamentals of Scientific Writing – Learn how scientific writing differs from general writing, with emphasis on accuracy, clarity, and evidence (ACE).
Frameworks for Writing – Explore practical tools like PLASTER, ACE, and BIO Metrics for drafting review and research articles.
Types of Scientific Documents – From letters to the editor and commentaries to systematic reviews and original research articles.
Referencing & Databases – Understanding major databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science) and referencing styles widely used in biomedical publishing.
Research Methodology & Structure – Hands-on guidance on using models such as IMRaD, CARS, and Hourglass to present research logically.
Practical Insights – Tips on responding to reviewers, handling objections, and ethical considerations in publishing.
This course specifically covers the following sessions and also the tools and framework on the following;
i) Understanding technical and scientific manuscripts (how is it different from text book, business articles and other documents)
ii) Types of Scientific Documents and its importance in scientific documents (Letters to Editors, Review Articles, Commentary, CMEs, Original research articles)
iii) Academic and scientific Research Database (Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, ERIC, Science Direct, DOAJ, JSTOR, ABDC, UGC CARE)
iv) Common format of scientific writing and major components (Hourglass model, King Model and other models)
v) Reading of statistical techniques and interpreting numbers in scientific documents (P value, Confidence Interval, Chi Square Test, t test, ANOVA, Odds Ratio)
vi) Methods of referencing (Vancouver style, APA style, Chicago A, Chicago B, Harvard Style)
