Description

This is a course on early reading development. Mother is extremely intimately related to the child. Now a days in India we call them garbha sanskaras- the positive cultural strokes given in the womb. The intellectual development of the child starts in the womb. The mother communicates with the child in the womb and this is her first interaction when the child kicks her from inside which is thrilling. Thus the impact of reading can take place even at prenatal stage. This sows the early seeds of reading in the child. After the child is born, mother starts communicating with the child by singing songs and by expressing love and involving in affectionate conversation with the child. After the child starts going to school, she is introduced to 3Rs, Reading, Writing and Arithmetic.

This course covers the first R, i.e Reading. Reading being a personal and private activity, its teaching at school level is taken for granted. This course covers stages in reading development and types of books at each stage, reading readiness, reading process, speed reading, genres of children's literature and strategies and techniques of teaching reading. Thus, there are theoretical as well as practical aspects of reading covered in this course. This course will creatively help in solving reading problems and difficulties for parents and teachers.

Who this course is for:

  • The course is for the stakeholders in Early Childhood Education like parents, teachers and librarians: who wish to direct the children to inculcate reading habits, librarians: who help in reading guidance and for social workers who want to spread reading among children.
