Quiz: Edexcel GCSE Chinese (1CN0-3H) – 2017 SAM Specimen Paper (Higher Tier)

Introduction

This interactive quiz is based on the Pearson Edexcel GCSE Chinese (Higher Tier) 2017 SAM Specimen Paper, Paper 3: Reading and Understanding in Chinese (Paper Reference: 1CN0/3H). This paper forms part of the Pearson Edexcel Level 1/Level 2 GCSE Chinese qualification, designed for secondary school students studying Mandarin Chinese in the UK and international settings.

This new specification (first taught in September 2017, with the first certification in June 2019) replaced the previous GCSE Chinese format, including:

• (5CN01/1F) Listening

• (5CN02) Speaking

• (5CN03/3F) Reading
  The final exams for the old syllabus were held in 2018.

Quiz Structure

This quiz simulates the structure and difficulty of the 2017 Sample Assessment Materials and is ideal for practice, revision, or diagnostic assessment.

The original paper includes two sections:

• Section A:
  Comprises 10 reading comprehension questions, all written in Chinese, with answers to be given in English. Questions test your understanding of everyday contexts, factual content, and implied meaning.

• Section B:
  A translation task, where students are required to translate a short passage from Chinese into English, assessing both comprehension and accuracy of language transfer.
