A short personal anecdote describing my experience in researching techniques to help nervous speakers to steady themselves before going in front of an audience.
The curriculum is split into 4 parts but heavily biased towards dealing with public speaking anxiety. We also look at creating content in a way which reduces nervousness, getting to the stage and started on the day of a speech and tips on getting your point across.
Sensitivity to stress inherited
controlled by limbic system
Not character defect
Spot the triggers
Evolutionary advantage
of extreme reactions
Modern threats symbolic
imagined loss of status
Stress chemicals even
if fear is not real
Over reaction triggered
by negative projections
Reframe to dissociate
separate identity – The Chimp
Feed the Chimp positive
intelligent alternatives
Use intellect
to override instinct
Summary of Session
Encourage inner dialogue
between the Chimp and You
Chimp is always on
Works 5X faster than You
Processes everything first
Condition responses to the
first signs of limbic reaction
Let the Chimp be heard first
Voice your inner fears and doubts
Doubts about:
Commitment
Ability
Humiliation
Authority
Negative feelings subside
after they have been heard
Introduce balancing thoughts
Engage with intellect
What is reasonable given
all the circumstances in
a modern adult workplace?
Take small realistic corrective
steps to achieve maximum effect
Summary of Session
Reframing is about
subtle shifts in
how we look at
situations
A 3% shift of
perspective can
open up
a new world
of possibilities
Summary of session
A guided visualisation in
how to change state by
adding new elements
to an imagined scenario
which impact your inner
feelings and motivation
Learn by getting a feel
for how easy it is to
mentally reframe to
achieve results
Imagined situations will
build mental pathways
around obstacles to
progress
As we add more
components to our frame
we can alter the way we
think and feel about it
We can do the same with
any fear by visualising
ourselves coping with it
Summary of Session
Metaphor
drawn from
the work of
Samurai Sword Master
Yagyu Munenori
The perfect mind to be in
for sword fighting is the
normal everyday mind
To achieve this we have
to polish away imperfections
which linger and distort
our thinking
This way we can see the world
unblemished by fear or
misunderstanding
We should cultivate this
frame of mind for
fearless public speaking
Summary of Session
Quick recap
How to gauge progress
in changing state
On a scale of 1 to 10
where does my
anxiety level sit?
Move down the scale
in single units
Gradual change is
easier to accomplish
than seismic shifts
Our deep subconscious
will reveal the inner
resource to help you
if you tap into it in the
correct way
Building on imagined
solutions mental pathways
are laid which grow as you
rehearse your reframing
Summary of Session
How to
talk to your
Inner Chimp
Question all assumptions
Sometimes the Chimp
is right and you must listen
Challenge all emotional
negativity with the word BUT
then suggest a better outcome
Ask “What’s the worst
that could happen?”
Ask “What if it goes right?”
Suggest positive possibilities
Summary of Session
It’s not what you say
but how you make
other people feel
Put effort into your
state and how it
is affecting the audience
Analogy of postman and
young child responding to
a ferocious dog – the dog
can sense fear – people
sense fear in the same way
Metaphor with a DVD player
What’s inside is what shows
on the screen
Put most effort into your state
and not your script
What you put into your mind
directly affects what comes out
You get what you think about
Summary of Session

Is stage fright holding you back?
Is it affecting your health and relationships?
Is asking for help embarrassing?
Take this course now in complete privacy.
Put an end to nervous trembling, sweats and sleepless nights with techniques used by the major corporations, in the theatre and in the martial arts.
Regain self control....it's easier than you think!
We once felt exactly the same as you and learnt how to beat stage fright.
Anyone can master these mental techniques and physical exercises.
Get your career back on track by beating your nerves and regaining your confidence.
Summary of what you are going to learn:
* Over reaction to stress is not weak character but biological fact and it can be reduced.
* Your instincts are like having a Chimp running your brain - we teach you how to bring it under control.
* Re-calibrate your feelings so they don't hijack your body.
* Develop a serene frame of mind when facing fear by developing the Polished Mind. Gently polish away mental blemishes and face any presentation as if you were simply walking to the shops to buy a snack.
* Present by telling a simple story in simple language. The audience are more interested in your story than they are interested in you.
* Control shallow breathing, the buzzing mind and trembling with simple physical exercises.
* Project yourself to your audience with effortless confidence by sticking to the proven three step process.
* Have faith in a technique which put the focus on the presentation and not on you and your imagined character flaws.
The course is built around video of practical techniques on how to re-frame fear, paint a picture with words and deal with excessively strong emotions. See it then Do it.
The material lasts for just over an hour but it takes about 6 weeks to embed until it becomes your conditioned response to stage nerves.
We have been there ourselves so we understand what you are going through.
Deal with this problem today and take this course.
