A Brief Introduction
It was my intention to help others like myself who found it challenging to read sheet music, remembering tones and even recalling which finger was up or down for any particular note. The Trumpet is referred to as the 'King of The Brass Instruments' and the journey to learn how to play it requires practice and dedication. Out of necessity, I came up with this simple system to improve my reading, listening and overall playing. So I hope that you will find this of huge benefit and that you too will eventually find it easier to read music, remember your keys and to be able to tune your ear along the way. If you persist, I am certain that this will improve your skill as a musician and help you prove to yourself that you can achieve any goal that you put your mind to.
How To Use The Passive Trumpet Tutor
Simply watch each lecture several times each day. Focus on each lesson in order initially but eventually you can have the lecture playing on your computer or smartphone when you have some downtime and follow along.
Remember that this is designed to complement your practice so spend at least half an hour each day and you will find that you will retain your notes, tones and finger positions.
You can adjust your browser window size narrow or wide, tall or short so that the video fills your window or reduce it to make what your prefer to focus on stand out.
The first part of the course is designed to review the music staff so that you remember what note sits on which line as well as learn to hear each note.
You will then go up and across the adjacent fingering chart using repetition to recognize the patterns and to follow along with the drill. As you can see here the vertical columns represent the finger positions. The number 1 represents your pointer finger and the 3 represents your ring finger. The horizontal lines we will refer to here as your positions or embouchure pressure. Each axis will be highlighted to emphasize the lesson's focus. So by the end of the first 3 sections you will become familiar with the basic variations.
You may also find it useful to hold your trumpet to practice with your fingers and when you feel like practice a particular drill that you may blow also. When you would like to rest simply by just watching will assist in your retention and accelerate your learning.
Although Udemy will monitor your progress and completion it is suggested that you regularly review and repeat all parts of this program so that you become well versed and familiar with every section.
You can later download any of the course videos so that you can focus on any particular drill independently.
