What is writer's block?
The origins of writer's block are generally attributed to Edmund Bergler, an American psychiatrist, who was himself a writer and author.
Writer's block is usually described as a psychological issue, as you will see.
For our purposes, we will define it as simply as an inability to write, despite the desire and ability to do so.
Please head to the resources section where you will find a vast array of resources that go with this course. Look out for your workbook which contains all of the slides with a space for note taking.
Also print out your mandalas and several copies of the writers block wheel as you will be review how far you ave come several times.

Consider two questions. Don't need to spend too long pondering the answers; simply write down the first few things that come to mind.
How do you write? ( Where do you go to write, at what time, in what way (pen and paper, desktop computer, laptop, etc.), and for how long? What pre writing activities do you do? How do you feel when you are writing?
When do you experience writer’s block? For now, use whatever definition of “writer’s block” you want.
Keep your answers to these questions in mind as you go through these common excuses.

A few exercises to try to help you to explore your writer's block.
Find the perfect writing space will enable your writing to flow and encourage you to write more. When I talk to clients about why they are unable to write it is often that they haven't created the right (write) environment.
There is an energy in each of these places that inspires you to write. Try sitting in different places and see what happens, it's the only way that you will find out.
In this lecture we also consider distractions and setting boundaries.
In order to write you need to make time.
In the lecture we consider what has to happen to make writing a priority and how to 'make' the time.
You have a vast well of resources to help you to be a better writer and in this lecture we look at what skills and knowledge you have to call on to support you getting through your blocks and writing again.
In this lecture we look at setting outcomes and what our writings heart spot is.
This lecture is all about ideas and the choosing the right one.
This lecture is the starting point of looking at our beliefs. Uncovering patterns of behaviour is fascinating. We can now start to see why we do things and why we are stuck.
This lecture expands on patterns of behaviour and considers how these create unhelpful habits and how we can start to change those habits.
Patterns and habits lead to limiting beliefs and perceptions of life. In this lecture we again look at outcomes and challenging our beliefs.
Having a vision for our writing and life enables us to have something to reach for. In this lecture we look at creating a powerful vision statement as well as considering what else we could use our writing for.
One of the biggest problems is declaring to the world that you are a writer and being proud to be a writer. In this lecture we look at the writer's identity, perfectionism and is this the right book?
Knowing why and what the purpose of your writing is highly motivating. In this lecture you will explore the question of why you write.
