Engage students in specific social skill activities like the use of Quick Social Responses and teach problem solving skills. Choose specific visual supports to enhance, practice or control student behaviors.

Description
The child with ODD can be one of the most challenging students you work with. This course will cover the key aspects and characteristics of ODD, what environmental, genetic and psychological factors affect ODD, how it differs from ADHD and Conduct Disorder, and multiple proven classroom and behavior strategies. You will see several video demonstrations of specific strategies and learn how to prevent power struggles. You will learn about the strengths of students with ODD and possible lifetime outcomes. You will engage in specific exercises to practice some of the strategies and you will receive multiple supplemental materials already made for you.

Instructors
Carla has worked for the past seventeen years as a Professional Development Coordinator for a multi-school, special education cooperative in central Indiana and currently works as the Assistant Director of Special Education for Westfield Washington Schools in Westfield, IN. She provides training, coaching and consulting services to special education /general education staff, administrators and non-certified staff. She is a member of the district's autism resource team and provides leadership to Westfield's team of speech language pathologists. Carla has a Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology from Indiana University and is a member of the Indiana Speech and Hearing Association. She worked several years as a speech language pathologist for school districts in Arizona and Indiana. She is the president and owner of The Butorac Group and posts a weekly blog and video on special education best practices and resources including apps, books and materials on her website. She is a published author and speaks at conferences, workshops and develops special education materials for educators and families with children with special needs. She has presented at state and national conferences and has taught classes at the university level. She has worked with students of all ages and in all areas of disabilities.
Kristie Brown Lofland is an Educational Consultant the Indiana Resource Center for Autism (IRCA) at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community at Indiana University, Bloomington. Kristie earned a B.S. in Speech Pathology and a M.S. in Audiology at Indiana State University. She also completed a program for Special Education Administration at Indiana University.
Kristie worked in the public school setting and clinical setting for 40 years with students with disabilities, augmentative/alternative communication and technology. During this time, she worked as a Speech Language Pathologist, Audiologist, Autism Consultant, member of AAC teams, and General Education and Special Education administrator. Since joining IRCA in 2010, she has provided training on using visual supports in the home, school and community environments; communication issues; using iPads and othertechnology for communication and computer aided instruction; and evidence based practices for autism spectrum and behavioral disorders. Kristie travels throughout the state of Indiana collaborating and providing ongoing support to school districts and families. Kristie has presented at state, and national conferences and workshops. Kristie received Honors of the Indiana Speech, Language and Hearing Association in 2007 for her outstanding contributions in the field.
