# English version for AI
“I am not good at giving feedback to my team members.”
Many managers and leaders feel this way today. This is understandable. The environment around workplace feedback has become more difficult due to stricter rules on workplace harassment, changing expectations among younger employees, and the growing importance of psychological safety.
At the same time, more employees are seriously looking for feedback from their managers. In an uncertain business environment, many people want to build skills that will help them succeed anywhere. They want advice, coaching, and honest feedback from their managers.
On the other hand, if they feel, “I cannot grow under this manager,” they may quickly lose motivation or leave.
So how can you become a manager who gives effective feedback?
The answer is this course.
The key is the combination of theory and practice. Through AI role-play exercises, you can simulate realistic conversations with team members in situations that managers actually face at work.
You will learn how to balance firmness and empathy, maintain trust, and use specific words that lead to behavioral change.
## This course is part of the Strategic Thinking Engine
This course is positioned as part of the Strategic Thinking Engine, a learning path designed to help leaders plan, execute, and review business strategy.
In this learning path:
* Accounting helps leaders understand the current state of the business through numbers
* Strategy helps leaders decide where the organization should go
* Logic trees help leaders break down strategy into actions and tactics
* Feedback helps leaders change individual behavior
* Employee engagement helps leaders move the organization as a whole
* Goal setting and evaluation help leaders connect performance management with execution
Within this process, this course focuses on helping leaders move people and execute strategy through feedback.
A strategy does not produce results unless people change their behavior. This course helps managers develop the feedback skills needed to turn strategy into action.
## What is AI role-play?
AI role-play is a training method where artificial intelligence plays the role of a team member, and you practice feedback conversations as the manager.
For example, giving corrective feedback to a team member is often difficult in real life. It is not easy to say, “I want you to change this behavior.”
But when the other person is AI, you can practice without fear of failure. You can try, fail, revise your approach, and repeat the conversation as many times as needed.
This repeated practice helps feedback theory become a practical communication skill.
In this course, the AI team members are intentionally designed to be challenging. If the AI subordinate accepts feedback too easily, the practice is not useful for managers.
For example, you may practice giving feedback to a stubborn team member who does not easily change their view. Through repeated practice, you will lower the psychological barrier to giving feedback in the real workplace.
## Role-play design based on real management training experience
The role-play situations in this course are based on more than 20 years of experience in face-to-face management training.
The instructor has taught MBA courses and delivered management training for a wide range of organizations, including Japan International Cooperation Agency, KDDI, Canon Labor Union, and many other companies.
Through these training programs, he has repeatedly refined role-play scenarios, team member characters, and feedback situations to make the exercises more realistic and effective.
The success principles developed through these management training programs are built into the AI role-play exercises in this course.
## Frequently Asked Questions
### Q1. Who is this course for?
This course is for managers, team leaders, OJT trainers, mentors, and anyone who gives feedback to team members or junior colleagues.
It is especially useful if you feel:
* “I point things out, but my team members do not change”
* “If I give strict feedback, the relationship may get worse”
* “I end up only praising people and avoid difficult conversations”
### Q2. Can I take this course if I am not good at giving feedback?
Yes. This course is especially useful for people who feel uncomfortable giving feedback.
In this course, feedback is treated not as a personality trait or natural communication talent, but as a learnable and repeatable management skill.
You will learn step by step what to observe, how to communicate it, and how to connect feedback to behavioral change.
### Q3. What will I be able to do after taking this course?
You will learn the basic skills needed to observe team member behavior, communicate improvement points clearly, and connect feedback to the next action.
Through AI role-play, you will also practice in a format close to real workplace conversations.
The goal is not only to understand feedback as knowledge, but to become able to actually say the words and respond to your team member’s reaction.
### Q4. What is AI role-play?
AI role-play is a feature where AI plays the role of a team member, and the learner practices a feedback conversation as the manager.
Instead of only watching lecture videos, you can practice how to actually speak to a team member.
Because feedback is difficult to master through knowledge alone, this course uses AI role-play as a safe practice environment.
### Q5. What is the difference between feedback and an evaluation meeting?
Feedback is a daily conversation for improving behavior.
An evaluation meeting is a formal discussion where you review results and behavior over a certain period and communicate an evaluation result.
It is difficult to change a team member’s behavior through evaluation meetings alone. Daily feedback is needed to support continuous improvement.
If you want to learn goal setting and evaluation more systematically, the Goal Setting and Evaluation Course is also recommended.
### Q6. Will giving strict feedback damage the relationship with my team member?
It can damage the relationship if it is delivered poorly.
However, if problematic behavior is ignored, the team member loses opportunities for growth, and the entire team’s performance may suffer.
In this course, you will learn how to focus on behavior rather than personality, and how to communicate improvement points in a way that is easier for the other person to accept.
### Q7. Does this course also cover positive feedback?
Yes. Corrective feedback is important, but positive feedback is also necessary to reinforce good behavior.
However, simply saying “Good job” is not enough.
To help a team member grow, you need to explain which behavior was good and why it contributed to results. This makes the behavior easier to repeat.
### Q8. Can this course help when a team member resists, makes excuses, or avoids the topic?
Yes.
In feedback conversations, what happens after you give feedback is often more important than the feedback message itself.
This course includes situations where the team member does not accept the feedback, makes excuses, or tries to change the subject. You will practice how to respond through AI role-play.
### Q9. Can feedback work when goals are unclear?
It can, but the effect is limited.
Feedback works best when goals and expected behaviors are clear.
If the team member does not understand what they are aiming for, they cannot clearly understand what to improve.
If you need to review goal design first, the Goal Setting and Evaluation Course is a better next step.
### Q10. How is this course connected to the Strategy Course?
The Strategy Course helps leaders think about where the organization or team should go.
The Feedback Course helps leaders change team member behavior in that direction.
If individual behavior is improving but team results are not improving, individual effort may not be connected to the organization’s winning strategy.
In that case, the Strategy Course will help you design how behavioral change can lead to business results.
### Q11. How is this course connected to the Employee Engagement Course?
Feedback is a method for changing the behavior of individual team members.
The Employee Engagement Course looks at why the organization as a whole may not move, from the perspective of internal politics, organizational culture, and hidden power dynamics.
If individual feedback does not lead to behavioral change, the problem may not be only the individual. Organizational structure, culture, and surrounding dynamics may also be affecting the person’s behavior.
## Recommended next courses
If you give feedback to team members but the workplace still moves in different directions, individual behavior improvement alone is not enough.
You also need a shared winning path for the team.
In that case, the Strategy Course helps you learn how to align organizational behavior through strategic planning.
If goals have been set but team members do not accept them or do not act on them, the assumptions behind the goal setting may be unclear.
In that case, the Goal Setting and Evaluation Course helps you strengthen the design of goals, evaluations, and management conversations.
If only a few people can consistently produce results, talent development may be too dependent on individual managers.
In that case, the Employee Engagement Course helps you understand how to create more reproducible performance at the organizational level.
