In this intro lecture, I would like to give thanks to you my students, and the plans for this course.
In this lecture, I will define the purpose of the course so that you will have a full understanding of the course before starting the background creation.
In this lecture, I will go over the tools used mostly in my worklflow and how you can benefit from using each one.
This course assumes you are an intermediate student and already has a know-how within Illustrator.
This course will show you the best ways in producing game backgrounds for 2d games.
Art should have structure, and in this lecture I will show you how I go about setting up my illustrator layers and how we can take advantage of this feature in illustrator.
Your first exercise in the course is to practice creating properly structure backgrounds, like what I have demo'd in the previous lecture. This will set the type of organization we will implement in our game backgrounds. But are not rules, and should just be considered as guides. If you are comfortable with working in one layer and have a full knowledge of layers, you can structure your own game backgrounds as you prefer.
In this lecture, we are gonna be starting in creating the mid ground for game background. This will help you see the bigger picture in what you are creating.
Continuation of the process in how I create midground for my game backgrounds.
Final leg of my process in creating mid grounds for game backgrounds
In this lecture, we will continue the game background design and add the foreground elements.
In this lecture, we will be finishing the full game background.
In this lecture, we will continue the background creation process and have our final, created from scratch game background. This lecture ends the creation process.
In this lecture, we will do a recap of what we have learned and achieved so far in the course. From our blocking to the final game background. And that everything was created from scratch. NO SKETCHES or anything. So its really possible for a non-drawing artist to create their own GAME BACKGROUNDS.
For your final exam, you will be creating your own game backgrounds using the workflows we have discussed in the course. Its up to you if you want to have the same result as mine, or sketch your own concept and detail it yourself.
You can go and work on backgrounds for any types of games.
Post it in the discussion board entitled "My final exam"
Thanks! And I look forward to your creations!
A Special Treat for my students. Check out the the lecture content. :)
In this supplemental tips and tricks video, I'll go over how we can clean up all those ugly excess shapes that bleeds out of our artboard. We will be using the power of clipping masks to trim them. Oh and it's a non-destructive approach. so the excess part of your artworks are still in tack and wont be erased. Check it out!
1000+ students upon launch!
