  • Alif19:15

In this lesson, you’ll be introduced to the Urdu alphabet and its distinctive features, with a focus on the letter alif. You’ll begin learning how Urdu letters behave in different positions within a word and practice identifying alif in authentic printed Urdu using a short excerpt from an Urdu book.

  • Bey Family19:11

In this lesson, you’ll be introduced to the five letters of the bey family—a group of letters that share the same base shape but differ in pronunciation and in the number of nuqtas (dots) they carry. You’ll learn the basic form and sound of each letter, as well as how their shapes change when they appear at the beginning, middle, or end of a word. To strengthen your recognition skills, you’ll then identify these letters in the same piece of printed Urdu used in the first lesson.

  • Jīm Family29:48

In this lesson, you'll be introduced to the jīm family of letters—a set of characters that share a common base shape but differ in pronunciation and nuqta, or dot, placement. You’ll learn the distinct sounds and core shapes of these letters and how each one changes form depending on its position within a word—whether at the beginning, middle, or end. To deepen your familiarity, we’ll identify these letters in context using the same printed excerpt as in all the other lessons.

  • Dāl Family32:10

In this lesson, we cover the three letters of the dāl family. These letters share similar shapes but have distinct sounds. I’ll show you how each one is written, how it behaves in a word, and what sets it apart—especially since they don’t connect to the letters that follow.

We’ll then practice identifying them in a short excerpt from an Urdu text, helping you move from recognition to real reading.
