  • Selecting your deck2:09

The very first thing  you want to do is select a Tarot card deck that you connect with.

There are so many unique Tarot card decks out their to choose from and each one of them is different. Once you learn the Tarot and begin to read for others or yourself,  you will become addicted to buying Tarot cards. I can't get enough of the different cards that are out their. So many beautiful decks with amazing imagery on them. There are some truly talented people that create these beautiful cards for us to read. Some are very simple with minimal color, some have tons of color and a lot of imagery on them. Some are big and some are small . Some are new and some are old.

The most important factor in choosing your very own Tarot card deck is choosing one in which the artwork resonates with you.

That's why it's very important to take your time when choosing. Go over as many decks as you can and don't pick one until you feel drawn to it. Trust me when you know, you know.

If you would rather see the deck in person , visit a local metaphysical shop if you have one near you or a store like Barnes N' Nobles. That way you can touch and hold the deck for yourself to see if you feel connected to it. Completely up to you.

Most Tarot decks come with a guidebook that gives you a brief description of each card and their meaning and usually has 3 or 4 different Tarot spreads you can do, as well.

Some even have the meaning on the card itself (very helpful for beginners).

For me, the guidebook was never enough. I researched the meaning of each card and I also pulled one card at a time from the deck and sat with the image for a few minutes and came up with my own meaning of the card by what I saw on the image,  but still kept the original meaning, if that makes sense. In general, every card is going to mean the same thing but different decks with different images will tell a different story. Some cards are very vibrant and bright with tons of images on them, like I said, and that one card can tell a whole story on its own with just the images, but then you have some decks that are darker, and have darker images and pulling a spread with those cards can take on a completely different story. It just all depends on what you choose and how you interpret the cards. But like I said, the original meaning of the cards will always stay the same.

One of the most common decks is the Rider-Waite deck. It is the most widely used deck of Tarot cards and was first issued in 1909. Of course its not the original deck but the images on them have stayed the same. If you feel drawn to this deck, it's a great deck to start with.

There are many places you can buy a deck from -

    • Amazon

    • Etsy

    • Barnes n' Noble

    • Local Metaphysical shop

These are just a few different places. Etsy is one of my favorites. Tarot card decks can get pretty pricey , just depends. You can find decks for great prices. Just remember to choose one that you feel intuitively drawn to.
