Learn to form a proper fist for Kyokushin karate's hand weapons, achieving a secure grip with fingers and thumb, then punch using the front two knuckles.
Explore the inverted fist, Uraken, using the back of the hand to strike outward rather than thrust; future lessons will cover additional back-of-hand strikes.
Learn the forefinger one-knuckle fist, four fingers curled with the index protruding, thumb secured, for a gravity-assisted top-down strike when the opponent is grounded, after strengthening hand weapons.
Master the middle-finger one-knuckle fist Nakayubi Ipponken for close-range attacks, targeting a grounded opponent's sensitive points such as the eye, below the nose, or jugular area in street bare-knuckle encounters.
Master the two-knuckle fist, Nihonken, with the index and middle fingers protruding, and learn finger and knuckle conditioning for grounded strikes on sensitive areas. Note its limited use in competition.
Master the forefist, or Seiken, by shaping the fist and striking straight from the front two knuckles. Condition your knuckles through push-ups on the front two knuckles to build calluses.
Master the dragon's head fist Ryutoken, a multi-finger thrust weapon. Learn to strike vulnerable targets such as jugular areas, under the nose, and under the mouth with finger action.
Explore the forefinger spear, ippon-nukite, using four-finger hand weapons in Kyokushin karate for self-defense, focusing on eye pokes and traditional applications beyond sport.
Master the two-finger spear, Nihon nukite, by enclosing the face and extending two fingers toward the eyes. Use this hand weapon only in critical situations to protect yourself or others.
Master the sword-peak hand technique by forming a tight edge between the thumb and forefinger, using side or scissor motions to strike the throat or encircle the neck for self-defense.
Explore the chicken-beak hand keiko as a kyokushin weapon, performing a horizontal thrust toward vulnerable head-area targets.
Practice the spear hand (nukite) in Kyokushin kihon, with fingers extended and thumb folded, delivering a straight horizontal thrust. Target the abdomen and note variations toward the face.
Explore the spear-hand hand-bend variation, bending fingers inward to strike from the side and target the abdominal area, with conditioned hands possibly aiming toward the liver.
Discover the inner knife hand technique, haito, in kyokushin karate, including nukite variations for head and abdomen strikes, targeting temple and jugular areas, with conditioning using muck water and rocks.
Master palm heel (shotei) strikes from a bent hand position, targeting the head, shin, or abdomen. Condition the wrist and hand with bag, rock, or sandbag drills for street-ready impact.
Explore the koken wrist block as the next hand weapon in the kill in hand weapon series, using the top of the hand to block punches upward and sideways.
Learn the fist-edge tetsui hammer-fist technique, used from top or side to deliver a powerful, body-driven strike with head and neck targets, noting its ban in many sports.
Explore the elbow as a lethal weapon in Kyokushin kihon, with multiple strike directions and variations, from body shots to head targeting, within the karate hands repertoire.

Explore the basic kihon of Kyokushin karate focusing on hand weapons, traditional parts of the body, and the Kion syllabus, with upcoming lessons on feet and legs.
In this course you will learn about the terminology and application of all parts of the arms and hands that are used as weapons in traditional Kyokushin Karate. This is one course out of a series of many to come in which a focus is put on building a strong foundation for understanding the application of traditional Kyokushin Karate practices towards realistic self-defence. The course does not intend to only cover the sport of Karate but it looks to uncover and reteach the traditional applications of Kyokushin Karate as seen through the many unorthodox weapons of the hands that are discussed and taught in this course. Karate techniques aim to to concentrate as much bodily strength as possible at the points of contact with the opponents body. In this course you will learn how Kyokushin Karate aims to convert all parts of the arms into an efficient weapon with a powerful striking edge or point. This requires continual practice and eagerness to learn and master such techniques. Be aware that this course alone does not teach you all these skills, however, it is an important stepping stone to learn and understand parts of the body that can be used as weapons before we start covering the strikes and techniques in more details in future courses that are planned to be more advance.
