Welcome to Introduction to Voice Dialogue, a powerful, direct-action tool that’s internationally recognized for its capacity to generate positive change. Its basis is that a healthy personality consists of an entire constellation of inner selves. The core of Voice Dialogue is the experience of meeting parts of ourselves in a structured way, so we can learn how they influence us in ways that help, and sometimes hurt. Voice Dialogue unlocks personal freedom as we learn to embrace all of who we are, and ultimately melts obstacles to a freer, healthier way of being.
This course is designed to be used as many times as you like to do your own Voice Dialogue facilitations. You have unlimited access to the format to continue your personal and professional development.
I am excited to be your companion as we explore the world of inner selves.
There’s a growing body of research supporting the concept that inner dialogue, our ongoing internal talk track, has an enormous effect on both success and satisfaction in life. We're guided by a variety of inner selves. When we’re not aware of them, it’s like having a bunch of apps running in the background, draining our bandwidth, and we may not even realize it.
Throughout this course:
We’ll define Voice Dialogue
We’ll outline its uses
We’ll learn about the primary selves
We’ll learn how to tune into your inner selves
We will do a Voice Dialogue facilitation
This course is designed for you to stop and do the exercises, which prepares you for your Voice Dialogue facilitations.
Take a moment and reflect on what brought you here. People begin their Voice Dialogue journey for any number of reasons, including being stuck, needing to explore an inner tug-of-war, having relationship, career, financial and health issues or life transitions--big and small. This empowering tool has a ton of practical uses including accessing your imagination, creativity and innovative thinking.
While this tutorial is helpful in many ways, this material is not meant to take the place of diagnosis and treatment by a qualified practitioner. Seek professional help if you find yourself overwhelmed with distressing emotions or situations, especially if they’re interfering with your ability to function. This course is only for educational and inspirational purposes.
Without access to our different sub-personalities, we’re cut off from vital parts of ourselves which robs us of our natural intelligence, creativity, and confidence as well as of our sources of energy. Just a few benefits of practicing Voice Dialogue are breaking destructive patterns and habits, strengthening your ability to maintain healthy boundaries and helping you access more courage, optimism, spontaneity, playfulness and overall joy.
As the secret and powerful intentions of our Inner Selves are disclosed, Voice Dialogue is a key to unsolved puzzles that have plagued people, sometimes for years.
To get the most out of your Voice Dialogue course, choose a tranquil environment which offers privacy, and where you feel safe and comfortable. Have a refreshing glass of water or cup of tea nearby, as well as a notebook and some pens and markers. Bring your open heart and mind, as you gain inner permission to be all of who you are.
Most of us learn to please our caregivers, who reward and reinforce certain behaviors and emotional responses, and discourage others. To avoid their rejection and gain their love, we spontaneously develop the parts of ourselves to which our original caregivers respond favorably. This is all perfectly normal bonding. It’s how we get attached to each other. Generally, the approved parts become our primary selves — the dominant set of characteristics that we consider who we are when we’re asked to describe ourselves. The exercises in this module help you explore how different inner selves operate in different arenas in your life.
An easy way to understand how our subpersonalities operate is to ask yourself which inner selves respond when your alarm wakes you from a deep sleep. At the same time a responsible part of yourself wants to get up, the part of your procrastinates may hit the snooze button and put off making any decisions. Each of us has distinct sub-personalities and Voice Dialogue is safe and powerful because it’s designed upon what we already do naturally.
In Voice Dialogue, the parts of ourselves that we’re scared or ashamed of, or disappointed by, or dislike, are called disowned selves. I also refer to them as our hidden selves because we spend a lot of time and energy trying to hide them. We can't get rid of a sub-personality, but the great news is that we can change our relationship to them and channel their gifts in healthy ways. Whether or not you like them, every single one of our inner selves has a gift to offer and serve a vital and noble purpose: to protect our vulnerability, which is the key to our unique essence.
The practice of Voice Dialogue is the spectacular shift from comprehending our world through our limited, habitual lenses to discovering and cultivating different points of view from our other inner selves. This sometimes extraordinary expansion is like getting an astronaut’s view of our inner terrain. Your guided Voice Dialogue facilitation starts here.
Once you choose which inner self you’ll work with, you'll embody and dialogue with that part of yourself.
While you’re embodying this inner self, you’ll begin a series of questions in order to learn more about how that sub-personality functions in your life. The alter ego is free to respond by sharing anything that comes up. Take notes and write down responses to these questions–you don’t have to answer them all.
Returning to your Aware Chair and getting centered, you will process what your first inner self communicated. Journal your responses before moving onto your next inner self.
Once you choose which inner self you’ll work with next, you'll embody and dialogue with that part of yourself.
While you’re embodying this second inner self, you’ll begin the series of questions in order to learn more about how that sub-personality functions in your life. The alter ego is free to respond by sharing anything that comes up. Take notes and write down responses to these questions–you don’t have to answer them all.
Returning to your Aware Chair for a second time and getting centered, you will process what your first inner self communicated. Journal your responses before moving onto your next inner self.
After facilitating both inner selves, you will now reflect and process in order to reap the benefits of the wisdom revealed in your Voice Dialogue session. You may have an immediate breakthrough, or you may not be sure what you’ve learned until your answers have cooked for a bit. Review them again in a few days and see what else shows up. Continue to journal about your Voice Dialogue process.
Stop and start this course as many times as is helpful.
Congratulations on completing your Voice Dialogue facilitation. Embodying an alter ego and allowing it to express itself, as is, activates capacities well beyond the logical brain, and animates our visual, spatial, auditory, rhythmic, verbal, kinesthetic, and physiological prowess! When we connect to our unique constellation of selves, we're able to access their precise superpowers when we need them. I’m thrilled you’re on your journey of discovering your creative, brave, resourceful, and even magical world of inner selves, and tapping into their vitality and potential.
Instead of personal development feeling like toxic positivity, what if could be an incredible, life-changing adventure where all of who you are belongs? Where breakthroughs don't mean you have to hide parts of yourself?
Wouldn't it be nice if there was a tool that supported awareness, perspective, clarity, and creativity. There is. It’s called Voice Dialogue.
In this introductory course, learn the transformational process of meeting your own symphony of inner selves in order to uncover the wisdom you’ve held inside all along. People begin their Voice Dialogue journey for any number of reasons, including needing to explore an inner tug-of-war, having relationship, career, financial and health issues and desires, life transitions--big and small, and being stuck.
Voice Dialogue is a potent and innovative direct-action tool based on the premise that a healthy personality consists of many different inner selves. Sadly though, we’re often made to feel that we have to choose to be one particular kind of person to get love and approval, which is limiting, creates blocks and fuels self-doubt and low self-esteem. The competing inner agendas that naturally result, force us to disown our uniqueness, reducing our ability to bring forth our singular gifts which are so needed in this world.
Here's what we’re going to do:
We’ll define Voice Dialogue
We’ll outline its uses
We’ll learn about the primary selves
We’ll learn how to tune into your inner selves
We will do a Voice Dialogue facilitation
Without access to our different sub-personalities, we’re cut off from vital parts of ourselves which robs us of our natural intelligence, creativity, and confidence as well as of our sources of energy. As the secret and powerful intentions of our Inner Selves are disclosed, Voice Dialogue is a key to unsolved puzzles that have plagued people, sometimes for years.
All of the exercises in this course have been road-tested with myself, my clients, my students, and my workshop participants who have all benefited, whether they were struggling with finding their assertive alter egos to deal with a bullying boss, wanting to find their life partner, uncovering their different selves related to money, how to manage parenthood or get in shape and improve their health, the list goes on.
Voice Dialogue has a ton of practical uses. Performing artists and creatives use it to access their imagination. Professionals in the mental health and wellbeing fields such as counselors, body workers, coaches, and other healers also use this technique to empower themselves, and to share it with their clients.
On the 3rd Thursday of each month at 8 pm (ET), bring your questions about Voice Dialogue to my LIVE learning lab. Watch a live Voice Dialogue facilitation, join in a great group exercise, and get your questions answered.
