Introduction to SUP Yoga Teacher Training is designed for yoga teachers, movement professionals, and dedicated practitioners who want to understand the foundations of teaching yoga on water.
This course is an introductory training that explores SUP Yoga as a yoga-first practice, not as a novelty, trend, or balance challenge. When the ground is removed, students are invited into a deeper relationship with breath, awareness, attention, environment, and presence. As a teacher, this requires a different approach to cueing, sequencing, safety, and holding space.
Inside this course, you will learn the key principles that underpin SUP Yoga teaching, including how instability changes the practice, how to prepare students on land, how to introduce the board safely, and how to begin structuring a beginner-friendly SUP Yoga class. You will also explore breathwork, mindfulness, nervous system awareness, and the role of the teacher in an outdoor and changing environment.
In this course you will learn:
The foundations of SUP Yoga as a yoga-first practice
Key safety, setup, and environmental considerations
How balance, breath, and awareness affect teaching on water
How to prepare students before entering the water
How to guide foundational postures and simple transitions
How to sequence a beginner SUP Yoga experience
How to support students with calm, clear, and confident cueing
This course includes a downloadable training manual and supporting resources to help you integrate the content and deepen your understanding.
Important: this is an introductory foundations course and does not replace a full SUP Yoga certification, practical assessment, mentorship, or any local legal and safety requirements needed to teach professionally on the water.
Students who wish to continue into a more in-depth certification pathway, including online or in-person training, practical assessment, and certificate options, are welcome to contact Nathalie directly for further training opportunities.
Upon completion, students will receive a certificate of completion for this introductory course. This course is designed as a foundational step only. Students who wish to continue into full SUP Yoga training, practical assessment, certification, or any applicable Yoga Alliance Continuing Education pathway can contact Nathalie directly for further online or in-person training options.
Please note that local water regulations, permissions, insurance requirements, rescue standards, and licensing laws vary by country and region. This course does not replace local legal or governing body requirements. Students are responsible for checking what is required in their own location before offering SUP Yoga on the water.
Whether you are exploring SUP Yoga for the first time, adding a new specialism to your teaching, or deciding whether to continue into full certification, this course will give you a clear and grounded starting point.
