This will let you know everything this course covers about teaching a class and please keep in mind this is for current or new cycling instructors or for people who plan on getting certified in indoor cycling first and then to teach a class. I call it the Greatest Indoor Cycling Class because you will not be using a playlist, you will be using folders to play songs.
This shows you how to take this course and how I describe roads/hills when I teach a class. I found this the easiest way to explain it and everyone understands it. You can get it done in less than two minutes at the beginning of class.
This covers everything we are going to cover in class in a written tutorial so you can refer to this E-Book along with each lecture. It's better to use it to while watching lectures b/c seeing it will make more sense :) So watch the lectures and refer to this.
This will show you the do's and don'ts of teaching a class and review how to teach roads as well as my pet peeves. Yuck!
There are many free youtube converters to choose from. I will show you what I use and how I to do it (this has been updated 12/30/2017) The older link on my course is now unavailable.
I will show you how easy it is to edit a song with a free sound editor.
I'll show you how I pick songs for roads.
This shows you how to put your songs into sub folders of the road. I also included a downloadable sheet for you to use here if you want to print it out (it's also in the E-book).
This is how to teach a steady hill climb for whatever duration you want using songs from your folders.
This is how to teach sprints back to back in class by cuing them using your MP3 player by playing sprint songs back to back and giving them the count downs to a song, how much is left on the sprinting road, how long their slow down is and how many seconds they have left before starting a sprint again.
This is how to teach a one song ride. The only reason to do a full song is to have a full circle, what I like to call it. Riding to one full song means we are going to the top and feeling endorphins and I only play one song rides maybe one time in a class. Sometimes if the people beg for it, then you'll give them another one from your one song ride folder :)
It's not easy, it's actually much harder because it's one song but that usually motivates the class. I teach you how to start on a medium hill and go harder on the chorus and how to get to the top towards the end of the song for your students to go 150% to try to go breathless, try to pass out and feel endorphins and then know they'll have a break right after. This is super fun. I show you which kinds of songs work for this as well.
This combination you can do choose any time length you want. It's about sprinting to a seated hill attack road and then adjusting to a higher hill out of the saddle and giving it your all for 20 seconds, then coming down that hill and doing it again.
You use your songs in each sub folder and your MP3 player to time the roads. For example a 30 second sprint means you play a sprint song for 30 seconds and then immediatly go to your hill attack songs and play 30 seconds of a seated hill attack then change it to a hard tabata song for your students to attack for 20 seconds.
It's all covered in this video :)
This video shows you how you can string along your songs in your Hill Intervals folder to create a long hill interval for any duration you want. Remember I never play the full songs usually just to the second chorus and then play the next song. This way it's never boring and it's way more exciting. I NEVER PLAY FULL SONGS unless it's a full song ride and trust me doing a full song ride is even harder.
You got it, it's singing time. I'll show you how to put a karaoke song together in your ride and when to teach it.
I'll explain the two things you need prior to teaching a Tabata Ride. Sometimes I've taught three of them in one class. It all depends on your students and what they want. It's all up to you.
This video is to show you how I change the song every time we start another round in the Tabata drill. I'm seated on my bike with my iPod in my Tabata songs folder and using my Tabata app on my phone as my guide. I always keep the class informed of the time we have left so that they can stay motivated to finish the eight drills. I also made this video downloadable so that you can ride along to it yourself and see how it feels before you go and do it on your own. You're going to be FANTASTIC! Do try to turn the volume down a little during the 10 sec slow down if you can and pump it back up on the next round.
I included audio from a class of my "LIVE TABATA" ride so you can hear how easy it is to teach the most exciting Tabata drill with my techniques and how quickly I can change the songs and keep everything seamless. I also decided to just let you listen to what happened after the Tabata Ride in this LIVE class.
This shows you how I put the ride together live in class and you can also download a chart of the songs I played and the duration of it here in the downloadable resources. I chose these songs from their folders, I didn't just randomly pick songs. I did randomly pick it in the folder of the road we were on because I know it will always match.
Here you can download an MP3 of the entire live 50 minute ride I taught and clearly hear how I cued the class the entire time. My voice is much louder here for learning purposes.
This video is only 17 minutes of the 50 minute ride since udemy doesn't allow lectures more than 20 minutes. However go to the top left corner blue arrow and you can download the entirity as an MP3 and get on a bike and listen to it and ride my ride.
I suggest watching/listening to the beginning that I posted on this lecture. I have this Exact ride in the next lecture with the names of the songs and the cues and the hill/road that you can download as well. You're welcome :)
These are all the songs and the length of the songs I played during my LIVE 50 minute ride. I edited it for you in order with visual cues so you can feel the music and see how I cued the class. I definitely recommend you ride to these songs so you can feel how I put it together. I played 31 songs in a 50 minute class.
Here you can download the entire file (50 minutes) and watch it on your phone or tablet and follow along with me on a bike to see how it all fits together. You can also practice cuing your class with this. It might be a little hard since the songs are all edited together and you're not changing it on your own, however you can still feel how the songs match.
For lecture purposes I cut it into three sections if you want to continuously watch it on Udemy but know that it is continuous.
It is sectioned into three parts, part one (this one), two and three but on the download it is continuous as I taught it that way.
Remember you'll be using your ipod/mp3 player and you'll change the music on your own cues so you control the ride, the songs do not control you. I cued the class gave them the countdown and then clicked to the next song.
You can see me do that in the ride videos.
This is part one.
You can download the whole video here in this section.
This is part two of the live 50 Minute Ride audio only with video cues.
This is part three the last part of the live 50 Minute Ride audio only with video cues.
Answers to frequently asked questions. If you have more just write me or start a discussion and I'll get right back to you.
I show you what I use to teach and my cords.
Here are the answers and the reasons why.
