Thank you for ordering this course. My name is Jason Akers and I own Green Akers Pest Control LLC located in Virginia. I have been in the pest control field since I was a very young boy (over 30 years ago) and I have been killing Bed Bugs for over 20 years. There have been MANY different methods over the years used to eliminate Bed Bugs. In this course I use Crossfire, a MGK product. It is EPA Registered and labeled to be used on beds including mattresses and living room furniture. This pesticide has a very loose label. It can be used anywhere bed bugs are and I have had amazing results over the years I have used it. I have had much feedback from other pest control technicians and ordinary individuals using my recommended methods and Crossfire with excellent success. This course, I believe, will have excellent results as well.
Inside this course I hope to be able to convey to you in a very down to earth way, how to eliminate bed bugs and be successful doing it. This course is meant for the home owner but also can be used by pest control professionals to maybe learn tricks I have learned over the years.
Understand that in this course I promote the use of pesticides. Always follow your labels when using any pesticide. In addition to complying with pesticide labels, check with your Country/State/Providence local laws to ensure everything you are doing that I have instructed is legal in the area you live. Be Safe and again Thank You!
In this video you will learn how to inspect a living room for bed bugs. When inspecting the living room, turn over sofas, love seats, and recliners. If there happens to be a sofa bed inside any of the sofas be sure to remove the mattress to inspect. The same inspection and technique used for standard mattresses will apply to sofa mattresses and functions as demonstrated in the previous videos. In this clip there is no sofa bed or futon to demonstrate so be sure to open up the couch or futon and pull everything out to be able to inspect properly.
When inspecting chairs or recliners, pull out all foot rests and lay back all recliners. Check around where ones elbow would normally rest against the arm of the chairs. This is a place common for bed bugs to live.
A lot of new model couches have arm rests with hidden compartments to hold remote controls. Be sure to open these compartments and check well for bed bugs.
Remove pillows and seat cushions and inspect the zippers to ensure bed bugs have not infested these areas.
When treating a living room for bed bugs be sure to flip furniture upside down and pay close attention to staples holding the felts to the chairs and sofas. Treat these areas.
With some of the newer models of sofas and chairs the feet can be easily removed by just unscrewing them with your hands. If this is possible remove the feet and treat under them then reattach the feet.
When treating Sofa Beds and Recliner Sofas be extremely careful when taking these pieces of furniture apart and turning them over because they are extremely heavy. I don’t usually recommend trying to turn over a sofa beds because usually they can be treated well when the mattress is removed. When treating the sofa mattress or futons, pay close attention to the seams as demonstrated on mattresses in a previous video.
Once the sofa cushions are removed treat the zippers of the cushions and the seams. Lay back all recliners and treat where the cushions meet in the “clam shell” design and spread every cushion apart where they join together and treat between them. Don’t be alarmed if you spread cushions apart and find a cluster of bed bugs because this is common.
In this section of the lesson you will learn how to inspect a bed for bed bugs. Always, be extremely careful when inspecting beds. When removing bed sheets, you are highly likely to infest your own clothing with bed bugs so be very careful. Try your best to avoid allowing bed sheets to touch your clothing as well as leaning and kneeling where bed bugs are active or may have fallen.
After watching this video you will understand how to effectively treat for Bed Bugs. This video demonstrates the technique to apply pesticides for bed bug elimination. If this had been an actual infested bed I would have removed the felt from the bottom of the box spring. Removing the felt won’t hurt the box spring but it will allow one to be able to treat the inside of the box spring where bed bugs live. Removing the bottom felt is a crucial step to the elimination of active bed bugs in a bed room.
When treating a bed for bed bugs be sure to pull the bed away from the wall and treat head boards, bed rails, and foot boards. Don’t forget to treat bolt holes, screw heads, and any other cracks on the head board, foot board, bed rails, or any other crack or crevice on the bed.
In this video you will learn the areas to treat that are not covered in the other treatment videos.
Bed Bugs lay eggs everywhere. In this video we learn to treat baseboards, crown molding, door ways and window frames / moldings.
In this video you will learn how to prepare a vehicle for the treatment of bed bugs.
The video is pretty self explanatory for this section of the lesson but I wanted to stress the point that stow compartments in the vehicle really need to be cleaned so that treatment can be made effectively. Be sure to vacuum thoroughly every crack and crevice for treatment.
In this video you will learn how to treat a vehicle for bed bugs. Treating vehicles for bed bugs is important because the bed bugs can transport on passenger clothing, luggage, and many other items infested with bedbugs that may be transported in a vehicle. It is advised to treat vehicles and then park them in shady spots because many pesticides can break down under UV light and heat from the sun. Most pesticides last a month or more when inside a home but when automobiles are treated the pesticides can break down within a week or two so retreatment of extremely infested vehicles may be needed.
In this video we learn how to treat chairs, cargo areas, trunks, and running boards. Do not allow for anyone to use the vehicle after treating until all surfaces are dry.
In this short clip we learn how to properly mix pesticides. In this video we see Crossfire Bed Bug Concentrate being mixed for a bed bug service.
