Welcome to this fun and inspirational painting course! We discuss briefly the four paintings we'll be creating together, and the ideas behind being more free, loose, and cathartic, and way less inhibited with our painting.
Here you will find all downloadable materials for this course:
• References photos for all paintings
• Images of my finished paintings
• Materials list
For our first painting, we'll do a beautiful sunset over the distant mountains, using a palette full of our favorite colors, and fun, bold brush strokes. We'll also see how much we can depart from the reference photo, which as you can see, is just a regular old photo that anyone with a phone can take.
Here we do a beautiful and vibrant flower scene, which was inspired by seeing a garden while just walking down the sidewalk. We learn how to use the reference as just an idea, and not get stuck to it, which allows us to create our own spontaneous world by using the photo as just a suggestion.
Here we paint a lonely old tree, for a more somber mood, because sometimes that's just what you need to express. We use a more somber color palette, and the tree comes to life with some unexpected additions of color and detail (which we learn how to embrace during the painting process, rather than feel like we made a mistake). Like Bob Ross says, "Happy little accidents".
We finish a fun day of painting with a vibrant afternoon cloud scene, which, like our previous pieces, takes on a life of its own.
Here we discuss the 4 paintings we just did, as well as recapping on the overall approach of this exercise: focusing on spontaneity, freedom, and fun.
Are you new to painting and are afraid of where to begin, or how to approach that daunting blank canvas without "ruining" it? Are you an experienced painter who's just stuck in a rut or tired of tedious long-winded paintings that lack excitement? Are you looking for an emotional, cathartic experience with art that lets you get a lot off your chest?
This course is for all of you. I show you how to throw caution to the wind and just paint with a free and carefree approach that makes painting fun again. No one is watching, there are no expectations, and you are liberated to just create. You'll find that your painting becomes a reflection of you, as you get it all out of your head, heart, and soul, and throw it up on the canvas to enjoy. Have a great time painting, and learn a bit about yourself along the way. Maybe it sounds cheesy, but it really is a lot of fun.
For painters of all skill levels. I teach this course in acrylics and use very inexpensive materials just to make it more approachable by anyone. You'll be surprised at the beautiful art inside you waiting to burst forth onto the canvas!
