This course focuses on Isshinryu kihon bunkai. Isshinryu is a karate style that is simple yet powerful. Due to its simplicity, it is appropriate for students of all ages and abilities that are looking to learn self defense. Prior to starting this course, it is recommended to have knowledge of the 15 kihon (basic techniques) of Isshinryu Karate.
This course teaches the bunkai of the 15 basic techniques needed to be successful in this martial art. Bunkai is the explanation of a technique and how to apply it. Each technique has its own video lesson which thoroughly demonstrates and explains step by step how to perform the bunkai. Structure, posture, foot work, body mechanics, common misconceptions and more are addressed during the lessons.
The course is broken into 3 sections so the learner can focus on five kihon with bunkai at a time. Each section will have a quiz following it that helps the learner reflect on the previous content. Correct and incorrect answer choices will have feedback as well as a reference to the video in which the bunkai was taught.
Practice of the 15 basic techniques while applying bunkai is recommended in order to strengthen muscle memory, develop discipline and to be better prepared for the next steps in learning Isshinryu Karate.
This course offers just a glimpse of the many bunkai that can be applied in Isshinryu. Future courses will share more bunkai for kihon as well as a focus on learning katas.
