Located on the west bank of the Nile River, some 60 kms (37 miles) north of Luxor and near the modern town of Qena, Dendera is probably one of the better preserved ancient temples in all of Egypt.
Dedicated to Hathor, the Sacred Cow goddess (neter), who was also seen as the Mother of All, breathing life into all creation, Dendera was also connected with Nut, the goddess (neter) of the starry realms, who gave birth to the sun (Khepri/Ra) every morning, only to absorb him again as darkness falls.
