Description
No previous artistic experience needed!
In this workshop we will investigate composition through the art of collage: approached as an inquiry, an experiment in decision-making and an opportunity for unexpected revelations. This method of collage/painting is inspired by Eastern approaches to contemplative art as well as contemporary approaches to painting.
During class, we will learn ways to settle and prepare the mind for artistic practice, we will explore techniques for creating interesting line-work and learn methods and approaches to composition. At the end of class, we will emerge with 3 original paintings, which we can then decipher to reveal elements of our own personal symbolism. Throughout, the creative process and the beauty of imperfection is emphasized.

Contemplative Collage is an investigation of a variety of ways to enter the creative process and invite the imagination out to play. This workshop is of interest to those who wish to explore the creative process and examine expression, imagination, and meaning in a deeply personal way. At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will have scouted new pathways into their own creative interior and will have a body of material to develop, refine, or with which to fertilize other projects. No previous art experience required.

Instructor
I bring 15+ years of formal training in the contemplative arts; sitting meditation, the internal martial arts, (Tai Chi/QiGong) dance, (Middle Eastern/Contemporary/Improvisation) as well as eight years of professional experience as a Rolfing Practitioner/Somatic Educator to my teaching.
The sense of peace and empowerment that can be gained from engaging practices that encompass all aspects of person-hood: physical, energetic/emotional and spiritual is priceless. Over the years, I've developed protocols that emphasize a balanced, light-hearted approach and a blend of elements that is neither overly formal nor lacking in technical detail. I'm excited to contribute my voice to an international community online!
