    In this workshop we will investigate composition through the art of collage: approached as an inquiry, an experiment in decision-making and an opportunity for unexpected revelations. An Eastern approach to contemplative and creative process.

    We will explore settling the mind, line-work and the creative process of composition . We will explore the elements of the creative process and the importance of imperfection.

    Each of us will emerge with original pieces of work, which we will then decipher to reveal elements of our own personal symbolism.

Description

No previous artistic experience needed!

In this workshop we will investigate composition through the art of collage: approached as an inquiry, an experiment in decision-making and an opportunity for unexpected revelations. This method of collage/painting is inspired by Eastern approaches to contemplative art as well as contemporary approaches to painting.

During class, we will learn ways to settle and prepare the mind for artistic practice,  we will explore techniques for creating interesting line-work and learn methods and approaches to composition. At the end of class, we will emerge with 3 original paintings, which we can then decipher to reveal elements of our own personal symbolism. Throughout, the creative process and the beauty of imperfection is emphasized.

Contemplative Collage is an investigation of a variety of ways to enter the creative process and invite the imagination out to play. This workshop is of interest to those who wish to explore the creative process and examine expression, imagination, and meaning in a deeply personal way.  At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will have scouted new pathways into their own creative interior and will have a body of material to develop, refine, or with which to fertilize other projects. No previous art experience required.
