In this course you will learn the history and developmental timeline of the divination methods included within Palmistry.
From its early starting point and originating in India Palmistry has it roots in astrology. We then look at how hand reading spread from India to China, into Tibet, across to Egypt and Persia and then finally into Europe and the Americas. However for our learning and the basis of this course it is the classical Western palmistry framework we focus on. This framework was established in Greece.
The Hand shows a great deal about its owner. When we first start to read hands we look at the foundations to start building our analysis. This includes the Size, Firmness, Texture, Joints, The Palm, and Palm Shapes.
The shape of your hand never alters. This means that it reveals a lot about your true personality and it can also act as a good guide to which jobs you are likely to be suited. Many people have a hand shape that is a combination of those described in this unit. The more closely your hand represents one of the shapes, the stronger its features will be in your character.
We discuss the 4 basic hand shapes - Fire, Air, Earth and Water
And the 7 Traditional Hand Types - Elementary, Spatulate, Psychic, Artistic, Square, Philosophic and Mixed.
This unit discusses the 3 main ways we divide the hand and the palm into specific portions. Once the hand is portioned we can analyse the sections to guide our analysis. We look at the features, the meanings and the interpretations and conclusions we can come to.
The fingers can reveal much about our fundamental attitudes, our formative development and the roles we play in life. Traditionally, the fingers are associated with the planets and their astrological attributes:
Jupiter (index),
Saturn (middle),
Apollo or Sun (ring) and
Mercury (little finger).
In some schools the digits were each allocated an element:
Water (index),
Earth (middle),
Fire (ring) and
Air (little finger).
If you have astrological knowledge, these associations will be helpful to you in palmistry.
Although we tend to think of the use of fingerprints as a modern method used in criminology, they have been known about and used in divination since ancient times. In ancient Babylon, fingerprints on clay tablets were used for business transactions. Thumb prints have been found on ancient Chinese clay seals. In fourteenth century Persia, government papers carried fingerprints.
There is a long history in India and China of the use of fingerprints in palmistry and the methods are very similar to those used by forensic scientists today. Although no two people have the same fingerprints, there are only three basic types: Whorl, Arch and Loop and the area of the hand and fingers they are found plus the number of times they feature tells us many things about a person and their character.
We analyse the wrist and the markings found on it. We also look at the markings, shapes and sizes of the fingernails to gain even more insight into our subject and their past, their present and their potential future.
A mount is a raised fleshy pad found around the palm under the fingers. Each mounts denotes mental, physical or emotional tendencies and is named for a planet that expresses those meanings in astrology. There are eight mounts on your palm with one being duplicated.
Jupiter: Ambition; power; domination
Saturn: Reserve; melancholy; seriousness; control
Sun: Brilliancy; fruitfulness; success; vitality
Mercury: Mentality; communication; commerce
Mars: (2x) Courage; conflict; competitiveness
Moon: Imagination; romance; changeability; emotion
Venus: Love; sensuality; passion; relationships
Neptune: Subconscious and conscious natures
The lines on the hand are studied to analyse a person’s nature and make predictions about potential events in their life. Each line has a quality which reflects a particular form of energy. While your hand shape and fingerprints show your unchanging potential, the lines indicate your expression of that potential. The small lines give us a way to identify specifics!
There are seven major or “important” lines on the palm of the hand. In this unit we analyse each in detail.
1. Life Line
2. Head Line
3. Heart Line
4. Girdle of Venus
5. Line of Fortune
6. Health Line
7. Fate Line
Many palm readers rely on the major lines alone. However, there are also many minor lines that can be used to add detail to your readings. The following list contains the most commonly used minor lines. Different schools of thought use different minor lines and some authorities list dozens of different lines that you can use. Often, the minor lines will simply confirm conclusions you have come to from studying other parts of the hand. When this is the case, it shows that those issues have a great importance in that person’s life.
The fingers may have rings or short lines that encircle the base of the fingers of the finger mounts. Each ring has its own meaning based on the finger it enhances.
Loops on the palm look like lassos. They are not complete circles, but are open-ended half circles. Some people have no loops, some people have all of them. Most people tend to have one or two.
Stars, Crosses, Circles, Rays etc - There are a multitude of markings that when considered against the area they are found and the direction in which they lead will give you very specific information to finish your reading and provide additional detail to help your subject.
There are many different ways of determining the timing of the events seen on the palm. The best way to begin is by studying one line at a time. The line you are reading will show a succession of events. In order to do this, you need to draw or envision imaginary lines. This can be done on the hand itself, on a photograph printed out or on a palm prints. With practice, you will be able to estimate the time intervals by eye.
In this course you will learn both the art of palmistry and of hand reading. While many people think they are one and the same they actually belong to 2 different but related divination forms. Palmistry refers to an examination of the palm, while a hand reading refers to reading the hand, fingers, thumb and wrists as a whole.
