Welcome and course outline.
This lecture will cover the different breastfeeding positions, some issues to consider with the different positions and the ideal positioning of a baby to breastfeed effectively.
Assessment of the baby for musculoskeletal factors that are affecting the baby's ability to be comfortable in breastfeeding positions, or actually feeding. The history, observation of the baby and breastfeeding assessment are discussed.
This is a video of an assessment and treatment of a baby. Due to the nature of the filming, and to ensure the comfort of the baby, some treatment techniques are incorporated. A preview for the techniques which will be taught in the remainder of the course include: helping baby mouth open wide and turn head. Watching this video after completion of the course will help you recognize the different techniques to help baby breastfeed better.
This is an introduction to massage, why it is so important in infants, and the techniques guidelines for infant massage.
This lecture will focus on different techniques to help the baby turn their head fully and equally towards both sides, so that they can properly root and latch.
This lecture will demonstrate different techniques to help baby bring their head back into extension. For a baby to breastfeed effectively, they should be comfortable and able to bring their head back into both active and passive neck extension.
This lecture will demonstrate different techniques on the face, jaw, ear and inside the mouth to help the baby open their mouth wide.
This lecture will demonstrate a variety of massage techniques to use on different parts of the baby such as the face, the stomach and the feet.
This is a bonus video for parents or caregivers to use anytime, in any position: baby sitting or in a baby carrier.
This lecture will provide a general description and principle of Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST) and how to apply them.
This lecture will demonstrate two Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST) techniques that can be used on an infant: Diaphragm Release and finding the baby's Still Point.
This lecture is a video of CST still point on an infant, explaining what is happening with the tissues. This is a good video to use as you practice, and can be performed on an adult or infant.
This lecture is a self assessment and uses cases to review causes and treatment approach to help babies breastfeeding better.
This lecture is a review of the techniques to help baby breastfeed more comfortably in different positions, and calm a fussy baby
This lecture has additional techniques for a fussy baby. The resources below will have additional videos to calm a fussy baby
This is the conclusion of the course with some departing remarks.
Instructed by Dr. Darlene Buan-Basit, a licensed chiropractor, trained in advanced massage techniques and cranial sacral therapy will teach and demonstrate the techniques she uses when working with babies. Before showing the techniques, Dr. Buan-Basit will discuss biomechanics of babies in breastfeeding positions, and how to assess for problems in the baby when positioning. These massage and cranial sacral therapy techniques are helpful to help for infants to help them breastfeed more efficiently and peacefully. This is important for babies that are suspected to have a tongue-tie, and may be used as a tool to help babies before and after the tongue-tie release.
