Description
Discover how expressive a ukulele can be as you learn to play the uplifting theme from Beethoven’s ‘Ode to Joy’. This course is created for complete beginners - you don’t need to read music or have any previous experience. All you need is a ukulele, a tuner and an interest in exploring a more classical style.
We begin with the essentials: tuning accurately, understanding the structure of your ukulele and becoming familiar with the supportive materials included with the lessons. Once you feel settled, we move gradually into learning the melody.
You’ll explore three interpretations of the tune. The first is a clean fingerstyle melody that introduces scale-based movement. The second is a bright chord-strumming version with a steady, march-like pulse. The third expands the melody with bass notes and simple harmonies to create a fuller fingerstyle performance.
As you practise each version, you'll naturally build useful musical skills: moving smoothly along short scale patterns, coordinating melody notes with simple accompaniment, recognising repeated motifs and linking each phrase into a confident, flowing performance. These skills form an excellent foundation for exploring more classical or melodic ukulele pieces.
The course provides diagrams, TAB, chord charts, playalong tracks and optional sheet music. Everything is designed to guide you clearly and support you as you build your confidence with this uplifting melody.
