Explore dhikr as remembrance and meditative mark-making that connects spirituality, psychology, and art therapy to regulate the nervous system, foster mindfulness, and express visual prayer through rhythm and repetition.
Explore how ritual and repetition drive change in art therapy by creating containment, safety, and meaning. Repetition promotes regulation and mastery, turning trauma into transformative, symbolic experiences.
Analyze artwork by comparing the size and placement of figures to assess vulnerability and empowerment. Identify emphasis, symbols, and repetition to reveal themes of loneliness and family dynamics.
Explore how contrast, texture, space, perspective, and emotional tone in your artwork reveal states of isolation or connection. Analyze subject matter, energy, transitions, and medium to gain personal insight.
Explore how financial stress, work pressures, family dynamics, and loneliness influence daily decisions. Express these feelings through a brief art sketch or doodle in part 1.
This course is very much two courses in one.
The first third deals with Art Therapy and Loneliness - specifically how Art Therapy canb help towards reducing the feeling of being lonely.
In particular covering:
Ways to Cope
Connecting
Self-Awareness
The second third looks at various themes in art therapy. especially we look at the work of Pepe (international cartoonist) both through his eyes and, of course, his work is up for discussion.
Other sections covered include:
Symbols in Art Therapy
Mistakes people make when analysing art
Art Therapy and Loneliness
The final section looks at re-inventing yourself - through art.
The emphasis throughout is on DOING and thus DISCUSSION. This is an Art Therapy course with the emphasis on therapy; so yes, you create art (exercises and a manual are included) but then you pause and on reflection, analyse. Through that process you start/continue your journey of self-exploration.
Art Therapy, Child Psychology and Loneliness is a new section (April 2025) and includes:
Relevance of Child Psychology to Loneliness
Techniques commonly used
Long Term Benefits
Child Psychology and Kids
How Child Psychology helps in coping with Loneliness
Nothing on this course is compulsory BUT you are encouraged throughout to share: not only your artwork but your thoughts and comment on the work of the Instructors in this course, featured questions and the submissions of other students.
Always go slowly; always pause or stop if you wish. It is important that as you learn, so you grow and this is based on enjoyment.
I hope you enjoy the course!
