Students will be completing a painting from scratch, using acrylic paint. A reference picture used in the video is available as a download.
This video I took a while ago, so some of the reference to a prior video is not relevant. It is an excellent exercise for your way forward, though.
Learn the basics of how to draw a face, as well as some shading techniques, in preparation for drawing from a reference picture.
You have always wished to be an artist, but don't know where to start.
Start from the very beginning, guided by an experienced artist. Learn about the basics, such as the materials you need, the basic techniques - and then move on to more advanced methods.
At all times, I will be available to advise and comment. You can interact with me and receive personal advice. I learned to draw and paint from a very young age. I was privileged to have an artistic mother, which gave me a head start. Art was not a subject offered at my small-town school, and it was not an option for tertiary studies. It was not regarded as a career, or the source of a viable income. It was a 'hobby' and you were 'weird' if you wanted to be an artist.
Fortunately, times have changed. I would advise sticking to a paycheck until you are established, but artists can make a career out of their art.
The important thing is; keep on learning and growing; nurture your talent. Understand that you have to learn to crawl before you can walk. You cannot become an overnight sensation as easily as pinning a banana to a gallery wall - to do that, you need to have a 'name' first!
Artists are regarded as people that are dreamers - yes, we are, and, yes, that is good - but we also need to understand about practicalities, such as making a living, budgeting, marketing.
Once you have completed the basic course on getting the art juices flowing, it would be advisable for you to sign up for my marketing of art course. The intermediate art course will get you going onto more complicated techniques - and then we go advanced!
Welcome to the journey!
