Learn more about the course! Here I give a more detailed description of the course.
Learn how human behaviour affects how you design and build training courses and what you need to consider when running a training course.
Gain insight into how the study of Human Factors affects our training processes.
Based upon a Case Study, we see how the management of threats and errors affect how we manage courses.
Risky Shift is one of the relevant human behavioural traits which are relevant to the behaviour of trainees. You learn more of what it is about and how to ensure that you minimise its effects.
How do you win trainees over to build up a desire to learn? How do you keep them engaged? These questions and more are addressed in this section.
A review of principles we addressed in Section 2.
We go back to basics to understand the true purpose of training. We then go on to see how we are able to address those purposes.
We take a look at the Loben Training Tripod and how it represents the three essential skills required as a trainer.
We take a look at how Appreciative Inquiry is used in augmenting the problem-solving process. We then learn what relevance both processes have in designing, building, and presenting training courses.
We take a look at how to plan training courses.
A review of principles we addressed in Section 3.
One of the three essentials of training skills is communication. We are only able to communicate effectively if we have a good understanding of how to communicate effectively, thus relating with them in the most appropriate way.
Without a sound understanding of trainees' cultures and their "no go" areas, we are at risk of losing mutual trust and respect if we take a wrong step in our actions or words, especially whilst communicating with them. This module creates awareness of the importance of trainer competence in various cultural traits.
Motivation means a great deal more than the "feel good" factor! We look at 5 types of motivation and how they affect you in your duties as a trainer.

We work through a Case Study to illustrate learning points from the course.
Course Description
We’ve all experienced training sessions that were engaging, practical, and genuinely useful… and others that felt like a complete waste of time.
The difference is not the topic, it is the design.
How to Design Training That Gets Real Results shows you how to create training that actually improves performance, behaviour, and real-world application.
This course goes beyond theory and focuses on how effective training is built using human factors, behavioural principles, and practical instructional design techniques.
What you will learn
You will learn how to design training that is structured, engaging, and results-driven.
In this course, you will discover how to:
Design training that leads to real performance improvement
Structure training sessions for clarity, engagement, and retention
Define clear learning outcomes and objectives
Apply the Training Tripod principle in training design
Understand technical vs non-technical training approaches
Use Appreciative Inquiry in learning design
Build training that encourages real-world application
Evaluate training effectiveness and improve outcomes
Human factors in training
Great training works because it understands people.
You will learn how key human factors influence learning, including:
Communication and decision-making
Leadership and motivation
Stress, workload, and situational awareness
Managing change, threats, and errors
Information handling and clarity
Safety and organisational culture
Culture and training effectiveness
You will also explore how cultural awareness impacts learning and performance.
This includes understanding the difference between:
Compliance (following rules)
Conformance (understanding and applying intent)
and why this matters when designing effective training.
By the end of the course
You will be able to design training that is not just informative, but practical, structured, and capable of producing real behavioural change and performance improvement.
This is a practical guide for anyone who wants to move from delivering information… to designing training that actually works.
