    The classes were created to suit everyone, in any life situation. Let’s face it - everyone is breathing, and everyone is feeling some pressure to cope with their busy lives!

    Body Mind Breathing is an easier and quicker way to release your body from the awful physical feelings of stress, nervous tension and anxiety; it’s a way to recalibrate your mind and body and give you a chance to heal and enjoy greater happiness, calm and clarity of thinking.

    Don’t let the simplicity of the exercises fool you! On the surface, the techniques appear simple, but under the surface there is a lot going on.

    The techniques are a powerful combination of breath, visualisation, rhythm and pressure on meridian points, creating an effective mind/body wellness tool.

    As you begin the exercise, you fill your brain with super charged oxygen and begin switching off the stress (“fight or flight”) response that fills you with adrenaline. Adrenaline and cortisol, the body’s stress hormones, are necessary to help you take the appropriate action in response to danger. However, the brain can’t tell the difference between physical danger and emotional danger. Today, our dangers are mostly emotional, and they are frequent. The brain constantly signals the release of stress hormones into the body to cope with life situations. When these hormones aren’t released through physical activity (running or fighting), or through focused mental activity such as meditation, they build up and you feel physically unwell. Eventually, the constant demands on your adrenals depletes them, leading to chronic exhaustion… and the constant influx of cortisol often leads to weight gain and mental fogginess.

    As the exercise progresses, the use of rhythm and a grounded soft tonal voice naturally realigns you with your own heartbeat and reduces your blood pressure.

    Guided visualisation gives the busy mind something to focus on. This provides the initial circuit breaker, distracting the mind from its habitual chatter and allowing you own body’s natural calming ability to kick in – switching from “fight or flight” to “rest and digest,” activating the parasympathetic nervous system and relaxing the sympathetic nervous system.

    Using gentle but firm pressure to meridian points on the body along with the breathing techniques, boosts the body’s natural ability to switch off and release physical tension.

    These combined techniques calm racing thoughts and give you control over your thoughts, emotions and responses.

    The techniques also support the synchronization of both hemispheres of the brain. Most of us are either predominantly left-brain thinkers (logic) or right-brain thinkers (creativity). Synchronizing the brain’s activity and helps stops the buzzing and mind chatter. This non-stop chatter is called “beta brain” – a heightened state of mental activity that tends to get stuck in one-dimensional thinking. Relaxing the brain out of beta is essential for stress management and optimal mental functioning.

    When your brain’s activity relaxes, you move into the alpha and theta brain wave states. This is the real gift of Body Mind Breathing. The alpha and theta states of brain activity are the states of superlearning, creativity, intuition, self-awareness, compassion, out-of-the-box thinking, memory recall, happiness and inner peace.

    Relaxing the brain into alpha and theta actually changes the physical structure of the brain, increasing your grey matter (information processing and storage) and increasing the thickness of the cerebral cortex (processing speed). In other words, being in alpha and theta more often makes you smarter, more self-aware, and it gives you the ability to “take the edge off” instantly. It allows you to function at a higher and more effective level physically, emotionally and mentally.

    The latest in neuroscience is coming into alignment with ancient wisdom, proving that we have the ability to heal our own body and solve problems when we focus inward, instead of always looking outward for solutions.
