This is not your typical planner, calendar, or scheduler. This Course of Action Guide is designed to systematically
elevate each area of your life. This guide is your resource to strategize, plan, and mastermind your way to a whole
new level. It is designed for you to achieve success quickly, focus your energy on what’s most important right
now, and break down your BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goals) into simple parts. Do you have bright shiny object
syndrome? Most of us do. We think we’re on the right path but then we get so sidetracked and lost that we lose
motivation. Use this guide to avoid losing motivation and shiny object syndrome because you have daily tasks to
complete. Once the task is complete, you’re free to direct focus elsewhere.
Print this out, bind it, make it YOURS! This Course of Action Guide is just that; your daily course of action you
will take to achieve your yearly goals.
This is the reason why we do what we do. Why do you wake up in the morning?
Watch Simon Sinek’s TED talk, Start With Why, and then write down a deep why for what you do using the Course of Action Guide.
Our focus is often on the things that went wrong. This is an opportunity to think about what went right. There are many things in our life, both large and small, that we might be grateful about. Think about the day’s events and write down at least three things that happened for which you’re are grateful for. These good things could be events that happened, skills or strengths you were able to use, goals you achieved, or good news about the individuals in your lives. Reflect on each item. Why did it go well? How did you or others in your life contribute to this blessing?
Values are where you want to be in life, goals are the accomplishments along the way. Goals are just dreams with a deadline. In each area you describe, write what you value about that area, write a goal, then chart your course. Reverse engineer how you will get there by planning daily, weekly, and monthly goals. If you want to make $100,000 a year, then you need to earn $274/day. Break everything down to the simplest form. Each daily goal equals your weekly goal, each weekly goal equals your monthly goal, each monthly goal equals your yearly goal, each yearly goal equals your 5-year plan, each 5-year plan equals a 10- year plan. You accomplish your dreams one step at a time, day after day, goal after goal.
Using the Course of Action Guide, look at the goals you set on the Values sheet. Work through the Goal-setting steps to create a plan.
COMMON ROADBLOCKS TO GOAL SETTING
1. As part of the goal-setting process, think about any obstacles that may interfere with your goal. These may be your own beliefs or thoughts.
A. For example, if you decide to focus on your value of staying healthy and strong, and you set a goal of improving your aerobic health and strength, you may find that you have some internal belief that interfere with this goal.
B. Another example; if you believe in putting your family first, you may have difficulty prioritizing the time you need to get to the gym. Maybe it’s a lack of motivation, boredom or unproductive patterns in thinking.
2. Don’t start over...Recalculate your route
A. Are there any beliefs/thoughts that interfere with your goals?
B. What external obstacles might interfere? What are strategies to overcome?
3. Accomplishing Goals
A. Create a plan to overcome potential obstacles.
B. Find ways to “trip” over your goals.
C. Personally commit to the goal.
D. Share with others.
E. Revisit to track progress.
Are there any obstacles that may interfere with your goals? What strategies will you use to overcome?
4. Researchers have found that people who make goals public are more likely to reach their goal. For example, in one study, people who made their New Year’s resolutions public were ten times more likely to maintain their resolution than those who kept it private.
5. Set aside daily, weekly, or monthly check-ins to see where you stand. Revisit your goals to track your progress. You may want to set aside time each day to check on your immediate goals, or each week to check on the status of your short-term goals. Post them somewhere you will see it every day. Share with others for a support network.
CHART YOUR COURSE
1. After you make a goal based on what you value, it is important to break these goals into concrete sub-goals. These sub-goals will be the specific steps you will take to pursue your larger goal. Creating sub-goals allows you to provide structure to pursuit of the goals, and provides opportunities to check on your progress.
2. People who plan steps to accomplish their larger goals are more likely to succeed.
A. Be sure to break down your goal into steps you can work on smaller pieces of your larger goal.
3. Select one of your values and create an action plan.
A. Set immediate, short-term, and long-term goals.
B. Think about any obstacles that may interfere with your goals. What strategies will you use to overcome them.
If every major company has Board Members and Board Meetings to talk about the direction of the company, last quarter growth and sales, next month’s growth and sales, then why are WE not building our own Personal Board of Directors for your life? Now you will when you utilize this guide.
On your Board of Directors are people and ideas that influence you and form your world-view. Can be positive or negative influences. We reflect on those people and experiences that influenced our belief system and change our “Board of Directors” should our belief system be insufficient to help us thrive in times of adversity. Your
Board of Directors can be people or events in your life. Understanding who is on your Board helps you understand where your values come from, and who has influenced you. When you are facing challenges, you can choose who gets a vote. Understanding the influences in your life can help you when you face challenges because you have a better sense of who gets a vote—it is another way to understand where your values come from and what you can derive strength from in difficult times.
For each area of your life, place 2-3 people that are excelling in that area of life to help elevate you into the next level. In addition, you can also place people, places, or things on your Board of Directors. Some people use their negative childhood experiences to keep them from falling into the same traps as their parents. Some people have an amazing childhood memory and tradition that fuels them in their own family. Use people, experiences, and beliefs on your Board to accelerate forward. Everyone shares at least five areas of life in common: Wealth/Finances, Health, Personal Development (Relationships, Family, Books, Etc.), Professional Development (Career, Business, Books), and Spirituality (Religious & Non-Religious, beliefs, values, etc.). Add more areas if you think it’s necessary. It’s your Board of Directors.
Balance Your Thinking is about becoming aware of how you perceive situations. Your brain is driving reactions that interfere with your performance, values, goals, or relationships. Sometimes we miss critical information because our brains take shortcuts. There are cognitive traps we fall into if we’re not careful or aware. We must first know what’s in our brains that hold us back from unlocking our true potential. Are left brain or right brain?
Left Brain: Deconstructs/reconstructs information, systematic, categorizes, focuses attention
Right Brain: Breadth of thinking, flexibility, sees interconnections and complex patterns, embodied knowledge, appreciation of the whole and living world, broader attention and possibility

Having daily habits empowers you to become more productive. Habits allow you to have focused energy and productivity. Science proves that it takes 66 days or you completing a task 66 times for your brain to form a solid habit which then becomes muscle memory. The rich and successful have non-negotiable daily habits. What you do everyday matters. DO you have a morning routine? A Mindfulness ritual? What you do from the time you wake up until you go to bed matters. Like budgeting your bank account, you have to budget your time.
“Time Management” is a myth, it cannot be done. There’s only 24hrs in a day and is not a renewable resource. Energy is infinite and can be maintained. If you’re tired you take a quick 15-20 min nap, and you feel refreshed, hence more energy. Use this graph to plot your energy throughout the day so you schedule tasks according to your energy. Knowing your energy level will allow you to complete simple asks while at your low energy and complicated or numerous tasks during peak energy levels.
Now that we have established daily habits, one of those habits should be a Mindfulness habit. Mindfulness is about becoming aware of how our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs drive our reactions. Mindfulness allows us to ground ourselves when there’s chaos in our lives. Search for the Headspace App.
Ask yourself: Are you Mindful? Or is your mind full? What grounds you, what is your center? Nothing has meaning until we choose what meaning to give it. How do you give meaning to the good and bad things that happen in your life? When you become a Master of Meaning, you give yourself the power to assign what every situation means, and WHY something happened the way it happened. How will you assign meaning to everyday moments?
Are you willing to burn your boats? Are you willing to have huge success at all costs? Some people wish for things to happen while others strive everyday to make it happen. Greatness is a lot of small things done well, day after day. You must be relentless in pursuit of sets your soul on fire! If you want to achieve huge success in your life, and achieve your dreams, then you must make it happen no matter what.
Broke people say they can’t afford it; successful people ask, “How can I afford this?” What’s holding you back Mentally? Physically? Spiritually? Money? What does it take to make it happen? Say YES! And then figure it out. You have the tools to achieve anything you want. The last 9 rules all lead to this moment. Why are you holding back? What obstacles are holding you back? When you say YES! You open your heart and mind to new opportunities and experiences had you just said no, you would miss out on. Think about all the times you said no and found out you missed out on something amazing. Don’t keep living in the shadows.
Say YES! To your dreams and make it happen no matter what! What will you say YES! To?
