Zulu has got to be one of the most exciting African languages you'll ever learn. The language is spoken by over 23 million South Africans (12 million speak Zulu as a first language, and 15 million South Africans speak it as a second or third language). Zulu is understood by over 70% of the South African population, making it the most popular language in South Africa. It is also well-understood in neighboring countries like Swaziland and Zimbabwe.
This course is designed to help you start speaking Zulu immediately. We have combined words, sound and images to make it easier to both follow and remember what you're learning. We have included sound to help you improve your pronunciation, while written words will help you with spelling and grammar. Images will help you improve your understanding of the language.
Why learn Zulu?
There are many reasons to learn Zulu, apart from being an interesting language; Zulu is one of the most popular African languages in the World. You can learn Zulu for fun, or as a language of communication that you can use when traveling to South Africa. You can also learn Zulu as a "special language" you can use with friends or family in public, knowing that no one else will understand what you are talking about (especially if you live outside South Africa). Well-known celebrity Oprah Winfrey has referred to herself as a Zulu woman because of her love for the Zulu language and culture. Some celebrities like Trevor Noah (Host of America's Daily Show) speaks fluent Zulu. Other celebrities like Idris Elba (British Actor) has had fun speaking Zulu in one Oude Meester advert. Learning Zulu will also help you communicate better with whenever you meet South Africans abroad.
Becoming fluent in Zulu:
As a way of improving our students' learning experience and helping them to enjoying learning Zulu, we have opened a WhatsApp group where we interact with our students on a daily basis. This is done in a fun and enjoyable way. Each day we post a practical activity that will help students communicate in Zulu with fellow students in the group. Students will also get an opportunity to interact with native Zulu speakers in the group.
Each lesson is also accompanied by a downloadable pdf version which students can use offline to practice anywhere, anytime.
In just 12 weeks of enrolling in this course, you'll be able to count, name things, talk about the weather, greet and hold conversations in fluent Zulu.
