Section 1: Getting Started
In this opening session, we'll give you a bit of background on your instructor, and an insight into what's going to be covered during the course!
In this lecture, we'll look at what we mean by "business productivity", and why the challenge of 'Information Overload' is bigger than many people realise!
In this lecture, we look at mind mapping principles that can help you get the most out of mind mapping software.
Section 2: Step 1: Capture
In this session we'll look at why it's important to start by capturing all of the ideas, tasks, and information you can think of in your mind map, and the key features in XMind that will enable us to start this process.
In this lecture we'll lay the foundations for our productivity dashboard, by focusing on the capture of ideas, tasks, and projects that we want to move forward in our daily working.
In this session, we'll show you how to add a second layer of information to your mind maps, while keeping the surface level clean and clear. Using the Hyperlinks and Notes features within XMind will enable us to capture and retrieve key information quickly and easily from within our dashboard mind map!
Section 3: Step 2: Prioritise
Now it's time to start thinking about ways to prioritise all the tasks, ideas, and projects that we're dealing with on a daily basis. In this session we'll discuss the importance of prioritisation, and the value of lining up your priority planning with the overall business objectives.
In this short section, we'll look at two key features within XMind that we'll then put to use in the following session. We'll be reviewing Icons/markers, and the auto-numbering functionality that can help us when identifying and sorting priority items within our mind map dashboard.
In this session, we return to build further on our mind map dashboard, and start to review and re-organise the map contents based on our priorities, using the priority markers, and auto-numbering to ensure we are constantly able to action what matters most.
Section 4: Step 3: Plan
In this short session, we introduce the planning part of our four stage process, and consider why plans may become redundant, but planning remains invaluable.
In this section, we start to build out our plans within our mind map, using a couple of simple features within XMind that can help us identify the who, what, and when for any task in our mind map.
In this session we'll start to add some of the 'what, who, when' information to our dashboard map, using the Task Info options within XMind that we demonstrated in the previous session.
Section 5: Step 4: Progress
In this session, we'll start looking at how we can use our mind map to move along numerous projects and tasks at any one time, focusing on progress across multiple areas.
Here we'll look at two features to help us ensure we can keep things moving, using the Progress Markers within XMind, and the mind map filter function.
In this session, we'll put our progress markers and filter to use, and look at how we might start to use this on a daily basis to make progress on tasks and projects.
In this session, Liam shares his Dashboard mind map, and illustrates how this is used on a daily basis to Capture, Prioritise, Plan, and Progress all the different tasks and projects in the Biggerplate world!
