WordPress is an online Open source website creation tool based on PHP and MySQL.
Wordpress is one of the most powerful platforms to host your site on. It is free, flexible and powerful and any sort of customized website can be created. In a summary Wordpres:
⦁ It is free

⦁ It is flexible

05:20

Wordpress dot com is the free version of wordpress. You do not need to buy a domain name or a hosting package. Once you are registered, you will get your own web address. You can then login to your dashboard and edit your site.

The downside of the free wordpress dot com website is that you do not get a fully independent domain name based on your niche or keyword preferences. Moreover, you will not be very successful to develop your own brand and presence in much more successful.

On the other hand on the Wordpress dot org, you just download or install the wordpress software on your own hosting account. You are free to customize your site the way you want. You can develop your own independent brand as you do not depend on third-party web platform.

Serious marketers and business owners go for the fully independent wordpress.org option. If you are thinking of seriously promoting your brand, business or blog, it is highly recommended to go for the wordpress.org version hosted on third parties hosting services.

Section 2: Domain and Hostings for Wordpress Sites
04:15

What is a domain name?
A domain name is a unique name of your website. It represents the url which is the web address of your site. For instance, you are in a fitness training niche and want to register a domain name. You come up with some name such as Johnfitnesstraining dot com. This is your domain and your website is accessible at the web address www.johnfitnesstraining dot com

08:20

In order to get a domain name, you will have to register one with a domain registrar. A domain registrar is a company which deals in web domains. You just go to the registrar website and search for the domain whether it is available or not. In this session we will use Godaddy to search for your domain name.

There are many domain names registrars and you can go for any of them as you like. My favourite is Godaddy. So let us go and find a domain name with Godaddy.

10:04

What is a hosting account?

In order to let your website go live on the web, you will need a company to host your site on their server. This company is called hosting company. Once you are registered with them by creating an account with them, you have created a hosting account.

In this lecture, I will walk you through to how to register a hosting account.

03:15

What is the best Webhosting company? Well, it all depends upon your requirements and personal preferences. I have used Ipage, FatCow, 1&1, 123, Just Host, Hostgator, Blue Host and SerVint over the years.
In my opinion and in the light of my experience, I recommend two webhosting companies.

Blue Host:

If you are just a beginner, then Blue is the best I can recommend. For small sites or just when you want to get started, Blue Host is the way to go. I use Blue host for my small niche websites.

SerVint:

If you need a lot more space, handle huge traffic then SerVint is the best option. I have been using them for the last so many years for my heavy sites.

A sub-domain is that the sub-directory on the main or add on domain. You do not have to buy a sub-domain and you can simply create sub-domains in your cpanel account.

Most larger sites have sub-domains in order to keep the content organized. For instance Udemy has a subdomain such blogdotudemydotcom

05:49

Creating an Email Account in Cpanel

Once you have set up your site, it is time to open an account associated with your website or brand name. It is not very professional to maintain a general email like hosted by Yahoo, Gmail etc.
In order to look more professional, it is always recommended to open email account with your website extension.

In this video, I teach how to change the name servers at your domain registrars. Remember you cannot host a domain unless your name servers are changed to the ones provided by your hosting company.

There is a lot of controversy among SEO experts and WordPress experts
About posts versus pages. Some people believe that posts are better than pages as far as SEO is concerned. Others think that you most valuable content should be on pages as pages are timeless and posts are time bound.

The most popular opinion is to publish your regular content on posts and your formality or legal stuff using pages. But I have seen many successful websites using only pages instead of posts. Using it as content management system (CMS), pages are a better option.
