The course covers exactly what is needed to build and produce a 2015 WordPress website by following very simple steps that anyone who can point and click a mouse and type on a keyboard will be able to do.
The course is taught in a relaxed but informative style that anyone can follow regardless of their level of expertise or knowledge of the subject.
Here's some of the subjects covered in the course:
The skills and knowledge learnt in this course will enable the student to learn simple website building skills that they can use again and again for their own personal use or even build websites for business owners.
When you consider how much it costs for an education at university that runs into thousands and the amount of personal time invested normally over a period of years, the cost of this course doesn't compare and the time it takes to complete is minimal.
Here i talk about the reasons for wanting to make a website in the first place. Whether it be for personal reasons or maybe starting a business.
Once you know how to build a website, you have in hands very valuable skills that can pay you very well.
Before we start building your website, i show you around my website and how we are going to produce one exactly the same.
The first thing we need to do is purchase a website name, (better known as a domain name). The company i use is Namecheap. This lecture shows exactly what to do.
Now we need a web hosting account. Put simply, it means we need to rent a bit of space on the internet where we can store our website. The company i use is Hostgator.
The next step is to link or connect your website name and the hosting account together. This lecture shows how this is done.
We have to place (install) WordPress on our website before we can start building it. Once this is done, it makes the rest of the process a lot easier. This shows how to do it.
This is where we add the new 'responsive' theme to the website that will give it the structure and new look we want.
Here i show how to add more domain name(s) to your hosting account without an extra cost to you.
After installing WordPress, it's always a good idea to change the password to something you can easily remember, here i show how it's done and i also show how to remove some unwanted plugins that normally come with WordPress that you don't need.
Knowing the difference between posts and pages is important, and here i show how to organize them and where to place them on your website.
Here we go into the 'widget' section of your website, and show how easy it is to add social media icons to your website and link the icons to your various social media accounts. (Facebook, Twitter etc...)
This lecture shows how to add a contact form to your website and how it links instantly to your email address.
Website visitors like to know where you are located. Here i show how to add a Google map to your pages and also how to resize it so it looks the same on whatever device your website is viewed from.
This lecture shows how to take a video from an external website, and make it appear on yours. No html needed, just point and click, copy and paste!
Its important that when visitors arrive at your website you catch their attention to encourage them to stay on your website. In this lecture i show how to make your posts more visually attractive and eye catching.
Here i show how to produce a nice logo using 2 resources that are absolutely FREE!
Same as previous lecture but i show how to produce your website logo but using paid resources. One is a piece of software that can be purchased very cheaply and the other is a website i subscribe to that gives you unlimited access to excellent images you can use.
It's essential to have a great looking logo on your website, it's the first thing your visitors to your website will see and it makes a big impression. In this lecture i show you how i make my logos in a short period of time using the resources in the previous lecture.
The responsive theme i use has a function to completely change the homepage into a very visually effective homepage that visitors will see when arriving at your website. Here i show how to change the wording, call to action button and how to arrange your pictures to the correct size for maximum effect.
I've left these plugins till now because they affect how the widget boxes on the homepage will look that i explain in the next lecture. Necessary that you install these 2 important plugins.
In this lecture i show how to change the widget boxes at the bottom of the homepage, and how to add the right size images to make them look even better.
I really do appreciate you taking the time (and money) to go through this WordPress course with me. Here i give my closing thoughts and wish you all the best for the future. Bye.
