Course Description

Video Marketing Scholars (VMS) is designed for entrepreneurs and business owners that are looking for ways to advertise their businesses without spending a fortune on advertising.

Video marketing continues to grow at an extraordinary rate and will account for 74% of Internet traffic by 2017. As a result, VMS was designed to help customers achieve page one rankings on the major search engines without resorting to paid advertising.

Everything on VMS starts with keyword research. This is the cornerstone of the course. We teach students how to use keyword research for Video Marketing, Video SEO, On-Page SEO, Local SEO and Article Marketing.

The keyword research alone would help any entrepreneur or business owner do extremely well on social media marketing too.

The Video Marketing Scholar course is primarily video driven. Many of the things we demonstrate on the videos are applicable to what every student needs to do to be successful with video marketing.

There are 8 sections in the VMS course. Students may choose specific sections to focus on, but the course was designed to fill in as many gaps as possible to be successful.

VMS specifically addresses:

  1. Keyword Research
  2. YouTube
  3. Video Marketing
  4. Webmaster Tools
  5. On-Page SEO and Video SEO
  6. PowerPoint And Keynote
  7. Article Marketing
  8. Google My Business

There is approximately 7 hours of video content available to students. Each lecture is designed to address a specific knowledge gap within the 8 sections of this course.

Video marketing should be a key component of any business owner’s arsenal. VMS has gone to great lengths to fill in the knowledge gaps about video marketing and spent three full years refining the topics covered based on the dialogue we have had with customers all over the world.

The value you will receive from VMS is incalculable.

What are the requirements?

  • Students should sign up for a Google Adwords account to access the Google Keyword Planner. If you are unsure how to do this, we cover it in the Keyword Module. You will not have to place ads in Google Adwords.

What am I going to get from this course?

  • Create videos that can be found on page one of the major search engines like Google, YouTube, Bing, Yahoo, AOL, WebCrawler and DuckDuckGo using meta-data information that is important to all the major search engines listed above
  • Leverage the extreme power of video marketing by creating videos that address your customers’ needs and problems. Establishing this relationship is critical to your success and it will allow you to ask for commitments because you are gaining your customers’ trust
  • Write a script for each of your videos that include a keyword title, a 200-300-word description of your video and 10-15 keywords you have researched on the Google Keyword Planner. This serves as the key component to getting your videos ranked on page one and cannot be left out of your strategy
  • Learn how to generate strategically important keywords using Google’s Keyword Planner (Free Tool). This will help the search engines find your content and categorize it properly so you can get ranked on page one
  • Learn why video marketing is such a valuable tool for your Internet business or your local brick and mortar business. Video marketing is used across all platforms and your message needs to be short and concise. Your goal will be to get onto page one of as many search engines as possible so your customers can find you and take the actions you want them to take
  • Apply the strategies you’ve learned for video marketing and apply them to your article marketing efforts. You will use the same strategies in a slightly different way to ensure your blog posts and web pages have tight search engine optimization (SEO). Without the proper on-page SEO, you will not see your website or blog posts get ranked on page one of the search engines
  • Develop free advertising for local businesses (brick and mortar only). The biggest challenge for any local business is getting customers in the front door. You will learn how to create web page information that the search engines need to rank your business listing
  • Help build PageRank authority for your content by using on-page SEO techniques to receive back links from other high PageRank sites in your niche. Having higher PageRank will mean your content is found more often on page one of the search engines

What is the target audience?

  • This course is for entrepreneurs and business owners looking for ways to drive traffic to their websites and landing pages for minimal advertising costs. This course is not for people looking for an automated approach to ranking videos. There are no requirements necessary to be successful with this course.

Section 2: Keyword Research
04:24

In order to use the Google Keyword Planner Tool, you will need to open a Google Adwords account first. We will walk you through the steps you need to take to open an account.

Even though you will walk through a process that requires you to give Google your credit card number, you can cancel the campaign you created immediately.

You won’t be charged for anything unless you decide to run Pay Per Click ads. Now you’re ready to begin your keyword research once you’ve signed up for an Adwords account. You can go to this url to get started:

http://www.google.com/adwords

Before you go there, watch the video on opening an Adwords account. It will walk through the steps you need to take. If you already have an Adwords account, you can go directly to the Google Keyword Planner and get started.

09:19

In this lecture, you will learn how to use the Google Keyword Planner. Remember, if you don’t have an Adwords account, watch the video on opening an Adwords account first because you cannot access the Keyword Planner unless you have this account.

We have worked with the Keyword Planner extensively and got hundreds of videos ranked number one on Google and YouTube. With that said, the range you should stick with is between 33,100-480.

We had tremendous success in this zone and it matches very well with the work we did with the Keyword Tool. Keep in mind that this range applies to most topics using the United States.

Your task is to begin working with the Google Keyword Planner and becoming familiar with finding keywords that work for your business.

05:12

This is an absolutely fascinating story. We have clients in Antwerp, Belgium that are singers and disc jockeys. They spent 87 hours creating an acapella (without instruments) version of Justin Bieber’s hit, “Baby”.

They launched their video and had pretty good success. They had around 2,900 video views for their YouTube video, but they were anxious to get many more views.

The reason they put so much time and effort into this video is because they wanted to meet Justin Bieber when he came to Antwerp in April 2013.

We looked over their title and it was very non-descript. It was ranked on Page One of YouTube, but there were only 24 videos. So we changed some things around with the title and the description and they were still Number One, but for 17,000 video results.

We also spent a whopping $5 dollars on Fiverr and got someone to write us press releases. This got the video instant attention all over Europe.

As a result, Justin Bieber’s group got a hold of this very talented trio and wanted to meet them. Unfortunately, the meeting never occurred, but the video now has over 29,000 views in less than 3 months. That’s a 10-fold increase!

Your task is to understand the mistakes that were made originally with ranking this video and the success you can achieve if you follow our guidelines.

Section 3: YouTube
09:16

In this lecture, you learn why staying focused on one topic or niche will pay dividends in the long run by:

  • Creating more videos means YouTube will start categorizing more of your videos in the same location
  • Creating more videos means you will begin to dominate a niche
  • Creating more videos means you will begin to create more authority for your brand and your channel
  • Creating more videos means you will get ranked higher than a video or a channel that has many more views, but fewer videos
  • Creating more videos means more people will find your clickable links to your squeeze pages or landing pages

Your task is to create videos that will be found all over the Internet. The only way to do this is by starting right now so you begin building authority in your niche.

03:08

At the end of this lecture, you will be able to create links on your YouTube Videos. Once the viewer clicks on the link on your video, it will take them to a specific page on the website you have chosen to associate with this YouTube Channel (Associated Website).

You will now be able to use a very powerful marketing tool (YouTube) to drive more leads and traffic to your website, landing page or opt-in page to increase your business potential.

Now that you have watched this mashup, it is time for you to add links to your videos. Good luck!

03:25

In this lecture, you will learn about the new YouTube One Channel.

  • Learn where to find the new design
  • Begin working through each step of the process
  • Start understanding how you can use this new design to your benefit

In the end, you will learn how to setup a YouTube Channel that can compete with other businesses in your niche.

07:22

In this lecture, you will learn how to create a YouTube Channel that appeals to your audience. You will learn how to:

  • Design Channel art
  • Add playlists
  • Add social media clickable links
  • Add website clickable links
Now that you've watched the video, it is time to begin designing your channel art, create playlists and social media icons and add clickable links to your website to engage your audience.
06:40

In this lecture you’ll learn why channel optimization is important. You’ll learn why:

  • Organizing your videos by category brings a better viewing experience to your subscribers
  • Having a trailer describing your channel is helpful for attracting more subscribers
  • Cross-promoting with other YouTube Channel owners can be beneficial to for your business

Now that you have watched this video, you should begin formulating your channel trailer and reaching out to other channels to set up cross-promotions.

03:50

In this lecture you will learn 2 strategies to get your videos ranked on Page One of Google and Page one of YouTube.

  • Use strategy Number 1 if your url (link) is relevant to the search
  • Use strategy Number 2 if your url (link) is not relevant to the overall search
  • After conducting extensive research, we have chosen strategy Number 2 for just about all of your videos
  • YouTube even suggests you use the first 55-60 characters to basically copy the title in the very first part of your description

Now that you have watched this video, it is time to begin creating a description for each of your videos. Strategy Number 1 is not a real strong option anymore so please make sure you use Strategy Number 2.

07:24

In this lecture, you will learn why it is important to add annotations to your videos. You will learn that:

  • Engagement goes up if the viewer can become involved in the video
  • Asking for a “like” or “to subscribe to a channel” will lead to viewers taking that action
  • Gaining authority occurs when you ask viewers to participate in your YouTube video

Now that you have watched this video, start looking at your videos and add annotations that will engage your audience to raise engagement.

04:47

In this lecture, you will learn how to create high quality custom thumbnails to accurately represent your content. You will learn that:

  • Creating distinctive thumbnails act as mini-marketing campaigns
  • Misleading your audience with thumbnails is bad for business
  • Creating visually compelling thumbnails lead to more clicks on Google
  • Using sexually provocative thumbnails can get you banned from YouTube

Now that you have watched this video, it is time to create your thumbnails. It is always best to have this completed along with your title, keywords and description before you upload your video to YouTube.

05:07

In this lecture, you learn about the importance of Meta-data. Meta-data is a fancy word for your title, description and keywords. You’ll learn about:

  • Optimizing your title
  • Optimizing your description
  • Using 10 related keywords so YouTube can categorize your information properly

Now that you have watched this video, begin formulating titles with keywords, make sure you are writing description that are 200-300 words in length and contain 10-15 keywords. This is not a request. This is absolutely necessary if you expect to be successful at ranking your videos.

06:00

At the end of this lecture, students will learn to create titles that can land your videos in the top five organic listings on page one of the major search engines like Google, YouTube, Bing and Yahoo.

The reason it is so important to be in the top five organic listings is because viewers do not click on listings after number 5. So if you are using video marketing, you need to follow the rules Video Marketing Scholars teach.

We've said this before and it is worth repeating here. There is no "Easy Button" to achieve success. You have to put in the time to be successful. You could spend thousands of dollars on pay-per-click advertising or you can follow our methods for top rankings on Google.

Now that you've watched this Mashup, look at the videos you've created and determine if your titles are hurting you or helping you. You can change your titles on YouTube. Just make sure you change the first 150 characters (with spaces) on your description to match your title. Good luck!

03:10

In this lecture, you’ll learn about custom thumbnails and why they are important to increasing the number of views you get for a particular video. This lecture is a continuation of Lecture 10:

  • Custom thumbnails are determined by YouTube. When you verify your YouTube Channel, YouTube will allow you to create Custom Thumbnails
  • Custom thumbnails are important because they serve as mini-billboards on YouTube and Google
  • The more creative and colorful your thumbnail is, the more likely someone will click on your video
  • Be sure to create custom thumbnails when YouTube gives you the go ahead
It cannot be stressed enough that custom thumbnails that standout from the crowd will generally get more clicks. Make sure you keep testing to see what works best.
03:39

In this lecture, you will learn how to install the YouTube Widget on your website. This is a great way to get more subscribers to watch your videos and ultimately get them over to your squeeze page or landing page. You must have a Wordpress site otherwise this will not work.

Now that you have watched this video, go to the backend of your Wordpress site and install the plugin and start increasing your subscriber rate.

05:14

In this lecture, your YouTube Analytics will tell you the truth. You’ll learn about:

  • Where your traffic is coming from
  • How long are viewers watching a particular video
  • What are your most played videos
  • What titles seem to attract customers
  • What changes you’ll likely need to make to increase view time

Now that you have watched this video, log into your YouTube Channel and begin exploring the statistics you have. Be critical of your areas for opportunity and begin to make changes to your future videos.

07:36

Custom thumbnails usually stand out in a sea of mundane pictures on YouTube. More importantly, custom thumbnails really stand out on Google and the likelihood of someone clicking on your video goes up tremendously.

The second component of this video is to describe uploading your video to other video submission sites. Yes, YouTube probably accounts for 80% of video uploads, but there are other sites you can get your videos on too.

You want to head over to http://fiverr.com/ and type “video submission” into the search bar. Here are the important steps you should follow to get the most bang for your buck:

  • Where your traffic is coming fromClick on the “Rating” tab. This pulls up the “Top-Rated” performers. This is the group you want to hire for your Gig
  • Look for people that “manually submit” your video. Also, look for the people that submit to about 25 different sites
  • Upload your YouTube video first and then give the Fiverr person your YouTube link. Never send them a raw file

Now that you have watched this video, head on over to Fiverr.com and explore the site and determine if this is worth $5 to get work done cheaply.

21:45

At the end of this lecture, students will be able to set up a live event on YouTube (also known as a Google Hangout).

Live events serve several purposes. First, using Live Events (or Google Hangouts) is FREE. Unlike other webinar services that can cost a lot of money, you can conduct live events whenever you like with as many people as you like.

Second, YouTube will automatically render your video and upload it to the Internet. In the example we provide here, I did the usual meta description first because I knew YouTube would be uploading the information to the Internet.

The reason I did this was because even though the live event wasn't happening for 26 days, I wanted to get the information ranked on page one of Google. Sure enough, the information landed on the number one organic listing on page one of Google.

It's a little funny seeing an empty video in the number one position even before the live event occurred. But that is a lesson for anyone doing live events. Set up your live event just like you do your regular videos and it will likely land you on page one of Google.

Now that you've watched this Mashup, start creating live events. Don't worry about making mistakes. This is how you learn to be a professional. Good luck!

11:36

In this lecture, you’ll learn how to generate backlinks from 2 of the most visited websites on Earth. That’s right, YouTube ranks Number 2 and Pinterest ranks #35.

You may be wondering what backlinks are and that is understandable. It is a way to measure the importance of a website or YouTube Channel.

So anytime the big boys are pointing to your site that means getting authority that money just can’t buy. This ultimately leads to more traffic when people click on your “clickable links” embedded on your YouTube videos.

Here’s where Pinterest comes in. Pinterest is set up so your YouTube videos can be played with the clickable links. So when you pin a video on Pinterest, it is clickable on Pinterest too!

The end game here is you will get double back links because you will have a link pointing to your landing page and your YouTube Channel.

If you haven't already done so, set up a Pinterest account so that you can begin pinning your YouTube videos on Pinterest.

02:28

In this lecture you will learn about the changes made on Google Search . In the past when you conducted a Google search, you also had the ability to utilize a black toolbar right above the search query. Now Google has implemented an application (apps) system to access all the programs that Google has.

It can be found in the upper right hand part of the screen. It looks like a little square box with 3 rows of 3 smaller boxes. The easiest way to find it is by looking for your name if you are logged into your Google account. You’ll see it in this video.

You will Be able gain access to the following apps:

  • Gmail
  • YouTube
  • Google Plus
  • Google Drive
  • Google Calendar
  • Google Search
  • Google Maps
  • Google Play
  • Google News
  • Any many more

Now that you have watched the video take some time and become familiar with these apps. They may help you out in your video marketing business.

05:00

In this lecture, you will learn that if you create 100+ videos, you may want to consider monetizing some or all of your YouTube videos. The amount of money you can make will vary depending on how many access your videos.

You can monetize one or any combination of videos you have on YouTube. If you decide you don’t want to advertise on your videos, it is a simple process to stop monetizing your videos all together.

Now that you have watched the video, go to your YouTube Channel and begin monetizing the videos that you want.

03:45

In this lecture, you will learn how you can download royalty free music from YouTube. This is a fantastic bonus YouTube is giving you. It could cost you thousands of dollars if you were to go out and buy all these background tracks.

YouTube didn’t skimp on the songs either. There are all kinds of music genres to choose from so you can really enhance your videos. Kudos to YouTube for offering this new creation tool!

Now that you have watched the video, go to your YouTube Channel and check out the music choices you have. Download the music you like and add the music you want while editing your videos.

13:27

In this lecture you will learn how to open a merchant store on YouTube. What if you don’t have a website and you would like to make money 24/7? Is this possible? You bet it is. YouTube has a partnership with over 50 businesses.

You can create clickable links on your videos that will go directly to the stores you create through these YouTube partners.

Most of these partners don’t charge you anything for creating a store. And the best part about creating the stores is the process is pretty simple.

You will need to do a couple of things to get started. I will walk you through the steps to verify your YouTube Channel so you can access the “Merch” link in your YouTube annotations section.

Don’t worry; this won’t take much effort. The most challenging thing you will do is deciding which partners you want to create a store with.

Once you get your stores looking the way you want, you can start creating videos to drive customers to your stores with the clickable links on your YouTube videos.

Now that you have watched this video and you are interested in opening a store, head on over to your YouTube Channel and begin the process of verifying a merchant account for starters.

08:39

In this lecture, you will learn about the changes Google made to gain access to their accounts. Google is attempting to get users to sign in under one main account. What makes this somewhat confusing is that if you had separate Gmail accounts prior to this action, you may not know which one is considered your main account.

In this video, we will look at how this work using you real name Gmail account or a fictitious Gmail name. We will also address personal accounts versus business accounts.

Now that you have watched this video, you may want to go ahead and consolidate all your accounts using one main account.

05:32

In this lecture, you will learn how to add closed captioning to your videos. You can reach a wider audience when you include closed captioning.

YouTube has the ability to create a transcript of your video, but you would not recognize it and it is very unreliable. This is an opportunity to go the extra mile for customers that need this service and deserve an advocate for their knowledge enhancement.

Now that you have watched this video, add closed captions to your videos if you believe it will reach an audience that deserves answers to their questions.

08:57

In this video, you will learn how to verify your YouTube Channel and your website in order to create an “associated website”.

YouTube allows you to add clickable links right on your videos. These clickable links allow you to redirect the viewer to any page you want to send them to on your website.

We will look at how you verify your YouTube Channel. Then we will show you how to verify your website using Google Webmaster Tools.

Once we have verified the YouTube Channel and the website, we need to go back to the YouTube Channel and link the website to the YouTube Channel. This creates the “associated website” that allows you to add a clickable link to your videos.

Now that you have watched the video, verify your YouTube Channel and your website and then link the two to create an associated website link.

Section 4: Video Marketing
07:19

In this lecture you’ll learn how to incorporate screen capture to enhance your videos. There are numerous screen capture software programs, but we like SnagIt because of its versatility. In this video you learn:

  • How to use images from the Internet to add to PowerPoint or Keynote
  • How to insert videos onto PowerPoint or Keynote
  • How to add text to your screen capture image to add more pertinent information

Now that you have watched this video, research screen capture tools that fit your needs. TechSmith is a good place to start your search.

05:10

In this lecture, you will learn how to use the Amazon S3 Organizer. Does it drive you crazy when you watch the spinning wheel of a video waiting for it to load? I’m guessing every other person on the planet feels the same way.

You can easily prevent this from happening when you upload a video to Amazon S3. Amazon offers a service that is tremendously cheap to host your videos.

So what do you need? If you already have an Amazon account to purchase items, you are half way there. The next step is to get setup on Amazon S3. You can use this link to get started:

http://aws.amazon.com/s3/

There’s a little bit of a learning curve to get started, but it is well worth the effort. Once you have completed this task, you should use a very simple FireFox plugin called the S3 Organizer that you download onto FireFox browser. The link for this plugin is:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/amazon-s3-organizers3fox/

There is also a little learning curve with this plugin, but once you learn it, you’ll wonder why you never had it on your computer before.

Now that you have watched this video and you plan on using Amazon S3 as a storage facility, set up your organizer and see how easy it is to use.

05:06

In this lecture, you will learn how to use Handbrake to reduce the size of your videos. One of the biggest reasons you see a spinning wheel go round and round before a video loads is because the file size of the video is too big.

You have the ability to reduce the size of your videos in half so they load faster and you can make them compatible for all types of devices. The link for HandBrake is:

http://handbrake.fr/

HandBrake is a tool for converting video from nearly any format to a selection of modern, widely supported codecs.

Reasons you’ll love HandBrake:

  • Convert video from nearly any format
  • Free and Open Source
  • Multi-Platform (Windows, Mac and Linux)

Now that you have watched the video, check out Handbrake and see if it is a tool that is right for you.

05:27

In this lecture, you will learn about a Wordpress plugin to help you with search engine optimization. If you do not have a Wordpress site, this plugin will not help you.

We put an absolute premium on generating the right keywords for your videos, articles and blog posts. You should be putting your videos on your website. Google and YouTube place a great deal of importance on this so should you.

There are plenty of WordPress plugins (free and paid) for SEO optimization. So why choose All-In-One-SEO plugin? First of all it’s free and the creator continues to update the plugin and that is very important.

Will All-In-One-SEO help you with YouTube videos? Yes, in a round about way if you load your videos onto a video website. Here you would be creating video posts and the same rules apply as if you were writing a regular written post.

Google and YouTube can send their spiders out to your website and use the information you put into All-In-One-SEO. This is no different than adding meta-data (title, keywords and description) to your YouTube page when you upload a video.

If you choose to go with another WordPress plugin, that’s fine just make sure you use some plugin.

Now that you have watched this video, install the All-In-One SEO plugin and begin addressing your SEO needs.

03:01

In this lecture, you will learn about downloading apps to your website. Loading Apps you use for your Internet business can lead down some interesting roads. Do you really know if the place you are downloading the App from is safe?

I used to use CNet (http://www.cnet.com/) to download all my Apps. It touted itself as the safest place to download plugins and software. Don’t get me work, I still use CNet, but I always check to see if I can find the source first.

For example, I downloaded HandBrake directly from their website (http://handbrake.fr/). In reality, it could be just as perilous downloading from the true source, but you’re odds are probably better than starting with a depository of downloads.

Now that you have watched this video, be aware of where you are getting your downloads in the future.

09:35

In this lecture, you will learn how to find affiliate products you can sell on your website and YouTube.

Anytime you enter a niche, it is important to do your homework. You need to ask your self some important questions like:

  • Are people interested in this niche
  • Will people buy products in this niche
  • Is there competition in the niche
  • Can you help solve someone’s pain by entering this market

One of the most efficient ways to determine if people are buying products in your niche is to take a look at ClickBank. ClickBank has thousands of products that people can buy.

The big drawback to ClickBank is you really have to dig deep to find answers. Their system can be difficult to navigate, but there is a nice way around that problem.

CB Engine offers a very effective way of bringing data to you for all ClickBank products. If you want to find out if people are selling products in your niche on ClickBank, CB Engine can give you results in only a few minutes.

Now that you have watched this video, sign up for a Clickbank account (it's free) and begin exploring affiliate offers you may be able to sell.

07:17

In this lecture, you will learn how to use Archive.org for some very interesting old school ideas.

The website Archive.org is a real gem if you are looking for great ideas from information that has lost its copyright protection. Granted you may have to go 30-90 years to find information, but you will find some absolutely great material to use.

I guess it’s like Facebook or Pinterest in the fact that you get hooked on looking through all the cool stuff it has.

For example, in the video we recorded, I actually found a song from Frank Sinatra singing a duet with Bono from the band U2. I don’t think they sang together, I’m sure Bono’s part was dubbed in.

Nonetheless, you’ll find great old movies like “Casablanca” where you can use in your own video and these movies have great Thumbnails if you are using PowerPoint Or Keynote.

Now that you have watched the video, head on over to Archive.org and start exploring the possibilities for your business.

04:06

In this lecture, you will learn how to create great logos with a very inexpensive software program.

Scott always says to get someone else to do the work for you and I am beginning to agree with that statement more and more everyday.

However, sometimes Fiverr doesn’t get it done correctly and you can create your own logos. The Logo Creator is a fantastic tool for those kind of jobs.

I use The Logo Creator for many jobs and I would be lost without it. I love it because you have no one to blame but yourself.

Now that you have watched the video, decide for yourself. Are you the person that needs to save money? Are you the person that can create great logos? The check out the Logo Creator.

05:40

In this lecture, you will learn how to get your content transcribe at a very cheap price.

If you are creating products, you have various ways of repurposing your original content. For example, you can create a video and use software to create audio mp3 files from the video file so people can listen to them on portable devices or in the car.

You can also create cliff notes and transcripts from the same video. In this video, we’ll look at a very inexpensive way to use oDesk (https://www.odesk.com/) to get transcriptions written for 30 cents per minute of transcript.

There are very specific rules you need to follow and we will outline these steps so you hire the best candidate to do the job for you.

Now that you have watched the video and you have a need for transcription, give oDesk a try and see if it works for you.

05:55

In this lecture, you’ll learn how to become an affiliate for Amazon. You’ll learn how to:

  • Add Text links or Banner links directly to your website
  • Make 8-15% on every product you “refer” to Amazon
  • Add value to your website by offering complimentary products to your products and services

Now that you have watched this video, sign up for an Amazon account and start earning passive income from Amazon for products you sell on your website.

07:49

In this lecture, you will get an overview of Camtasia. This is a screen recording program and screen editing program. It is used primarily on PC computers and there is a version for Macs too.

The program costs around $300. If you can’t afford Camtasia, Windows-based computers have MovieMaker. This is a free program and it should already be loaded on your computer.

We use 2 screen-recording programs for our business. We use Camtasia for PCs and Screenflow for Macs. These programs are very versatile and they are excellent for capturing whatever you have on your screen.

Many of the videos in this program have been recorded using Camtasia. We tried to show you as many features as we could on Camtasia so you get an idea of its functionality.

Techsmith, the maker of Camtasia, offers very good video instruction and they also offer a 30-day trial for free. Your best bet is to start with a free trial because $300 is a lot of money if you don’t plan on using the program much.

Now that you have watched this video, try Camtasia for 30 days for free. Sooner or later you will need to edit your videos and this is a great one to practice with for 30 days.

08:47

In this video, you will learn how to use Amazon S3 without any plugins.

There are two videos on this topic. In the other video, I explain how to use a plug-in on Firefox to manage your Amazon S3 files.

In this video, I will show you how to store information directly onto Amazon S3. You may be wondering why you should be storing information on this cloud-based storage system in the first place.

You may have the good luck of never having had your hard drive crash on your computer. It has happened to me twice and if you don’t backup your computer or store your valuable files and videos on a cloud-based storage system, you are in big trouble.

The other reason for using Amazon S3 is because we have membership sites with many videos. Have you been on sites where the spinning wheel goes on for a long time for the video to load?

This loading problem rarely exists, if at all, with Amazon S3. Plus, the cost to store your folders or “buckets” as Amazon calls them, is a real bargain unless you have thousands of people watching thousands of videos per month. That would be a nice problem to have anyway!

Now that you have watched this video and you are interested in storing your content on Amazon S3, create an account and follow the steps to start loading your content on the cloud.

Section 5: Webmaster Tools
03:21

In this lecture, you will learn how to get your domain verified by Google. You will:

  • Setup your Google Webmaster account if you don’t already have one
  • You will use one of 4 methods to verify your account
  • You will be able to setup your “associated website” link faster by verifying your domain name for clickable links on YouTube

Now that you have watched this video, get your website verified on Google Webmaster Tools.

02:57

In this lecture, you will learn how to verify your domain on Bing Webmaster tools. You will be able to use several options to accomplish this task.

  • Setup your Bing Webmaster account if you don’t already have one
  • You will use one of 4 methods to verify your account

Now that you have watched this video, get your website verified on Bing Webmaster Tools/

Section 6: On-Page SEO
14:15

In this lecture, you will learn how to optimize your on-page SEO. Why is this important? When you create videos, your goal is to send the viewer to your website or landing page or sales page.

Once the viewer heads over to your website, you want them to come back over and over again. The best way to accomplish this is by getting as many pages and posts ranked high on the search engines.

Even if they don’t remember your domain name right away, they will be able to find it through general search methods because your listings are toward the top of page one.

Now that you have watched this video, start optimizing your web pages for improved rankings on the search engines.

07:06

In this lecture, you will learn how to link your content and external content. This video gives you examples how to include anchor text (hot links) to your web pages and posts. Why would you want to risk the chance of having someone click on a link that sends him/her off of your site?

First of all, search engines like Google like sites that link to other sites. And secondly, you are providing your viewers with the research they would have to do.

When you link to outside sources (Preferably higher Page Rank sites than your website), you may get valuable, high quality links back to your site.

Now that you have watched this video, review your web pages and start linking internally and externally for additional ranking benefits.

10:09

In this lecture, you will learn how to utilize position, frequency and distance of keywords on your web pages.

We are going to address 3 characteristics of on-page SEO. The position of your main keyword should be found toward the top of the page in the title, description and first paragraph.

The frequency isn’t what you may think. The frequency for the main keyword should actually be low. This means that other related keywords describe concepts of the main keyword. Let’s say “video marketing” is your main keyword. Phrases like “marketing your business with video” relay the same meaning. This also called semantic text.

In the same context, the distance between words is important too. For example, “Video marketing is a type of marketing for your business when you advertise with videos”.

Now that you have watched this video, begin to structure your web pages and blog posts using position, frequency and distance to aid your rankings on the search engines.

07:28

In this lecture, you will learn how to use primary, secondary and even tertiary keywords to gain an advantage in search engine rankings.

For example, your primary keyword may be broad keyword phrase like red wine. We know that there are different types of red wine like pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. You want to expand your website by writing about these different types of wine.

Additionally, you'll want to expand out even further by writing about where the best places to get these types of wines are and how they are paired best with certain foods.

Do you see a pattern here? Your content is becoming richer and you are providing very valuable information on one website to your viewers.

Now that you have watched this video, start implementing these tactics to build a rich website where content is king.

03:07

In this video, you will learn how to add a WordPress plugin to your website (WordPress Websites only).

Almost 50% of searches are conducted on smart phones and tablets. This means your website has to be mobile ready so people can find your website on any device.

You will learn how to go to your plugin section of WordPress and find plugins that you can download to your website.

In order to make sure your website is mobile friendly, Google offers a mobile ready test that you can analyze your website. I will search Google for the phrase, “Google Webmaster Tools Mobile Friendly Test”.

This test will take less than 2 minutes and it will tell you whether your website id mobile ready or not.

Now that you have watched this video, verify your website and YouTube Channel so you can add clickable links to your videos.

04:27

In this lecture you will learn how to spy on your competition with a couple of keystrokes. There are plenty of tools and services that show you how to find the keywords your competitors use.

Before you get too excited, we still caution you about using other people’s keywords. You really should trust your own keyword research by using the free Google Keyword Planner.

Now that you have watched this video, start looking at what your competitors are using for keywords and see if you are on track or even doing better.

11:53

In this lecture, you will learn how to improve web page rankings by following several tactics. If you have a website, this means you are probably conducting business on the Internet. It seems obvious, right?

One of the biggest challenges you have is getting your message out to people searching the Internet for answers to their problems.

Research has been done to figure out how many times someone will click on your listing.

For any given first page search result, the breakdown is as follows for organic listings: 53% goes to the first listing, 15% goes to the second listing, 9% goes to the third listing, 6% goes to the fourth listing and 3% goes to the 5th listing.

Your prospects for success below the fifth spot become very slim. This is why on-page search engine optimization (SEO) is so important.

Now that you have watched this video, go back to your web pages and determine what you can do to improve your on-page SEO.

  • Use your keyword research to create a title
  • Write your body with all the important points to get approved
  • Write a Call-To-Action that compels someone to click on your link
  • Submit your article for approval

Now that you have watched this video, it is time for you to write your first Ezine Article.

In this lecture, you will see the results I achieved on Bing and Yahoo. You’ll see that my article got ranked:

We updated this video in 2015 to make sure our strategy still meets the standard of getting a number one position on the search engines. The answer is an unequivocal YES!

Since we have a “Platinum Author” status on Ezine Articles, we have the ability to get approved or disapproved within 48 hours.

This article was adapted from a video we did for our “Google My Business” Module. It took 2 hours to write, video record the steps and submit for approval.

Within 2 hours Ezine Articles approved the article. This is a nice way to generate traffic especially since it achieved a number one listing on Yahoo and Bing within 2 hours of approval. Additionally, this article can now be used as a back link to our website.

  • Number 1 on Yahoo and Bing for the original title
  • Number 1 with a variation of the title
  • Number 5 for almost 1 billion page results

Now that you have watched this video, do not procrastinate. Start writing your first Ezine Article.

Section 9: Google My Business

Now that you have watched this video, open a Google Adwords account so you can gain access to the Google Keyword Planner.

09:49

If you own a local business, this arguably the single most important type of advertising you can implement for your business and more importantly it is free!

Before you say you already have a listing on Google, you need to make sure your account is verified. This is a simple process, but business owners don’t always realize what they must do to get verified.

In this video, we will provide you with an overview of Google My Business so you understand what is in the program. In subsequent videos, we will address actionable steps you can take to achieve top rankings on page one of Google.

Now that you have watched the video, make sure you have verified your local business listing on Google.

11:14

In this lecture, we review several important things you should do to enhance your rankings on Google.

“My Business Signals” accounts for nearly 20% of the weight for Google local search. There is a reason to pay attention to this algorithm since it accounts for one-fifth of your local search rankings.

You will learn how to verify your website on Google Webmaster Tools and you will learn how to verify your business listing on Google My Business.

You will also learn about Google categories and how to assign the correct ones for your business. Additionally, we will cover four rules you must follow for NAP (Name, Address and Phone Number).

Now that you have watched this video, begin fixing any errors you have for your NAP.

18:14

In this lecture, you will learn 10 things you can do to improve your local business ranking on Google My Business.

You may think that you don’t compete against the large corporations for business, but that would be an incorrect assumption.

Small, independently owned businesses are feeling the pressure from big companies. Most big companies offer the same quality service online as a small business owner can do at a brick and mortar location.

Competing in the local business market can seem daunting especially if you are not doing what the successful businesses have figured out.

In this lecture, we will walk through an example of a business that has done a tremendous job getting near the top of the Google 7-Pack (Holy Grail of Local Search).

In many cases, a business will hire someone to do this work for them. It can get very expensive, but you can do much of this work yourself.

There are several things you absolutely must do. First have your name, address and phone number (NAP) on every single page of your website.

Second, “Content Is King”. Every page should provide your viewers with great information and each page must have keywords related to the topic on that page.

Third, have a method for collecting names and emails from your customers. Use opt-in forms and incentivize people with an offer they can’t refuse. For example, offer them 10% off their next purchase (or some other offer you feel will work) to build a customer base.

The Google 7-Pack is a free service and it is available to anyone that has a local business. It sure beats paying for Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising!

Now that you have watched this video, begin implementing these tactics to improve your Google My Business rankings.

11:14

If you have a local business, your ability to be found online requires as much attention to detail as any online business.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is required in order to be found on page one of the major search engines like Google, YouTube, Yahoo and Bing.

The local search engines like Yelp, Foursquare, CitySearch, Merchant Circle and a whole host of others rely on SEO too.

This means you should be implementing SEO tactics for each and every page you have on your website. Name, Address and Phone Number (NAP) are the cornerstone pieces.

In this lecture, we will review examples of how your radius of influence is determined by the search engines. Unless you are a tourist attraction or have been covered extensively by any type of media, your goal is to dominate your radius of influence.

This so-called radius is arbitrary because it depends on the density of the population around your business. In large metropolitan cities, your radius will be much smaller than it would be in a rural area.

Now that you have watched this video, begin to take the steps outlined her to dominate your radius of influence.

05:10

In this lecture, we will look at the cloud based storage system called Google Drive.

Google Drive is FREE for up to 15 GB. You have many options for storage. For example, you can store documents, spreadsheets, presentations, photos, videos and more…

For local businesses, your computer may contain information you cannot afford to lose. Cloud based storage like Google Drive will prevent a disaster from occurring in the event that your hard drive crashes.

You have complete access to Google Drive regardless of where you are. You also have the ability to send private files to select people or you can download files for public view on the Internet.

Now that you have watched this video and are interested in a cloud-based storage system, check out Google Drive and see if this is for you.

08:37

If you are a small business owner, there are things you can do to increase foot traffic to your store.

In this lecture, we will discuss 7 tips to help you increase your business in an offline way. Sometimes using old school strategies works very well.

Only you have the ability to make this happen. Be creative, leverage media outlets and social media to bring a buzz to your business!

Now that you have watched this video, utilize the 7 tips to increase your foot traffic.

Section 12: Conclusion Of The Video Marketing Scholars Course
2 pages

Congratulations! You've taken the time to finish the Video Marketing Scholars Course.

By completing this course, you've put in quite a few hours watching videos and understanding the role video marketing plays in your overall marketing efforts.

We would love to tell you there are “Easy Buttons” when it comes to marketing your business, but there are none. We have carefully created a course that will help you be successful using YouTube as an avenue to drive traffic to your website.

We also added complimentary courses because your success depends on a multitude of factors. For example, when you verify your website on Google and Bing, your transparency is rewarded by the search engines.

We advocate the use of YouTube because they offer a tremendously useful tool called “associated website”. In this example, you need to verify your YouTube Channel and you need to verify a website you plan on associating with that YouTube Channel.

Your success is two-fold here. You have the ability to rank your videos on page one of the major search engines and you have the ability to rank your web pages when you use on-page SEO.

It doesn't matter if you have an Internet business or a local business. Keyword research and on-page SEO separates the successful websites from the ones that don't understand the power these tools offer your website.

One of the most important things you must understand and embrace is the use of keyword research and on-page SEO. Both of these tools apply to the videos you create (in your description) and the web pages you create (500 word pages).

We keep bringing up web pages. Why do we do that? We encourage you to add videos and images on each web page you create because it is another opportunity to find your content.

Every person on the planet uses his/her own strategy for finding great content. Your job is to provide people with as many ways to find your content. Tagging your videos and images is one way of increasing your visibility on web pages.

One final thought we would like to share. Forget trying to find short cuts. Programs that tout the “Easy Button” leave out many details. We purposely tried to provide every single detail we could think of to help you.

Take your time and understand the more videos you create, the more views you will get. And if you've done a good job with your call to action, you will drive traffic to your website, opt-in page or sales page.

Thank you for purchasing our course and we look forward to hearing about your success.
