I will guide you through a small VFX pipeline to make an amazing movie clip-Once learned you will have the knowledge to take on your own footage and create some stunning visual FX. I will cover Matte painting work and how to use resources from our original footage, than we proceed in creating movement in the shot with various items like smoke- Then on to some 3d integration to make the shot really sing.
You will learn how to:
Bonus Tutorial: Learn to take any 3d object and place into any live footage! This technique is one of the best things I have ever learned! With this knowledge you can place robots, spaceships and any thing you can imagine inside live footqage- to me this bonus is worth the price in its self, why because it took me months to figure it out lol I know you will be truly happy with this bonus for sure-
In Section 1 we will set up our footage once you have downloaded the zip file- Then I will show you how to grab still images from the original footage to use later on for our matte painting.
welcome to Section 2- This section is all about the matte painting- In Section A we will clean up our still of unwanted cars so we have a clean plate to work with-
In Section B I will show you how to use all stills to grab cars from them to add to our main plate, with attention to size and creating masks for our new images.
You will learn how to use a garbage mask to isolate car and then we will dive into roto-scoping for a better way of masking the car- In this section the more time you put into your masking the better- I just went through it for the technique but if you look closely there are several frames that should be re-worked- Spend the time for a final production!
There are many ways to add smoke in AE with regular footage and plugins- but I will show you how to get a convincing smoke just by using AE-
Finally we bring the helicopter to finish out the scene- by using a pre-rendered helicopter its very easy to lay it into the video- If you wish to create your own helicopter render make sure to try the Bonus Tutorial- Blender Helicopter Animation
Using some blur key frames to add to the helicopter- Re arrange layers(smoke on top etc.
Another tip not added in the video: If you want to control the speed of the helicopter- select your helicopter layer then you can go to:
Layer>Time>Time Stretch and set to 150+
I am currently the visual effects supervisor within Liquid Blur Studios- I am consistently working on all types of film from 3 min teasers to full blown productions and TV- I wish to share VFX ideas with anyone that wants to listen- I remember in the day there was no such thing as learning vfx - you basically had to know someone in the industry or figure it out yourself- So I am happy to have this opportunity to have some fun with people that either want to see how thing are done, hobbyists or professional students that want a new light on VFX-
I currently work any many programs and hope to push them to there limits- I also like to try and use free based programs when I can so that everyone can jump into the VFX world and not have to worry about software price! So let's get started and make some cool FX!
