Roger Alken

Online Karate Trainer

Hi, I'm Roger Alken... one of the founders of Online Karate Trainer. I have a 5th Dan in Shotokan Karate and am a fulltime Martial Arts trainer (Shotokan and Kyokushin Karate and Muay Thai) in have my own dojo's in the Netherlands.

I was a member of the Dutch Karate Team from 1988 till 1994. Here are some of my results during my Karate career:

  • National Junior Champion in 1988.
  • National Junior Champion in 1989.
  • Gold Medal winner during the Open English Karate Championships in 1991.
  • Gold Medal winner during the Open Danish Karate Championships in 1993.
  • Bronze Medal winner during the World Games (Den Hague) in 1993.
  • Open Dutch Champion heavy weights in 1994.

I'm an official Karate trainer and Dan degree examinator in the Karate-Do Bond Nederland (Dutch Karate Organization) and was the official coach for the Dutch Junior and Cadettes selection.

Together with fellow Martial Artist, Functional Fitness trainer and good friend Sebastiaan Vondenhoff (4th Dan in Shotokan Karate) I've created a blended learning approach for Online Karate Trainer. Our various instructional videos will allow you to train Karate at your own pace, anytime and anywhere.

All of our programs are devided into small training sessions of only 20 minutes each and come with a 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 day training schedule, giving you the freedom to plan your own training days and yet still book results!

Our programs are a mixture of Kyokushin and Shotokan Karate, and Muay Thai techniques. We strongly emphasize on the practical value of technique (e.g. in our ABC drills) in general. This is because we believe that this is more realistic in everyday life and in fact a lot easier to master without a (non-digital) teacher in front of you. That being said all Kihon (basic technique) and Kata (style figures) are Shotokan based.
